What is "The Alpha Group"?

I saw a poster advertising this outside a new building in town. DH says it's some sort of religious thing, but I have never heard of it before, is it a type of religion?

Sorry if this insults anyone, I am just curious now as to what it is and what it stands for etc?

Does anyone know?

Do you mean the Alpha course? It's a course on christianity that's usually run in someone's home or a hall. It's pretty informal and very enjoyable. It's for those new to christianity or just curious. No pressure to join

I'm a spiritualist now but was a christian and can heartily recommend it.

its a good course, our church runs it, it explains what you need to know about being a christian.

aweebit, Alpha isn't really my bag either. But it's not the only way of exploring Christianity nor is its way the only way of believing. You can buy books, surf the net, or just start going to church more often. Many churches offer different courses and Bible study. Two good sites are rejesus.co.uk (their prayer labyrinth is fab but ignore the message boards) and wellsprings.org.uk. Just a thought...
