Which Bible do you use

Am looking for a new Bible (woohoo) and can't decide which translation or format.

Have been looking at some study Bibles but they seem to have too much info.

I'd like a Bible for in depth study and general reading.

I love the language of the King James. However I sometimes check passages on the Bible Gateway website to see other translations. I still go back to the King James though, personally. I think you should go with whatever moves you the most.

I use the NIV but also occasionally use other translations including the ESV (which I understand is closer to the original languages but which I find flows less well to read). I also have a New Living Translation, New Century Version (used in our Sunday School), Good News version (had as a child!) and KJV (confirmation present).

My personal preference is the NIV for a good balance of readablility and accuracy - I find that the KJV takes me much longer to puzzle out what is being said so my reading doesn't flow. What does your church use?

I wouldn't particularly recommend a study bible as your main one. I find for general reading all the notes are distracting. I particularly like the standard version with cross references in a narrow centre column and a brief concordance at the back like this (when I borrow a church copy without the cross references and concordance I always miss them!) and then I have an electronic version of the ESV study bible and NIV study bible on my tablet.

I have used the NRSV for many years as my starting place. Bible Gateway is really good for comparing the translations as often the original Greek or Hebrew does not translate easily and it is interesting to see how different translators have addressed that issue.

One translation I really like is the Nick King version of the New Testament. He puts in comments through the text which are thought provoking.
