I'm trying to find some Christian music that is to my taste too so will watch this thread. I like some Matt Redman (10,000 reasons is one of my favourite worship songs), and I know Skillet are a bit heavier than you might like, but they have a live worship album called Ardent Worship which Is definitely worth a listen. If you do like heavier stuff then I can recommend more. What are your favourite worship songs?

I like most of the songs that are played on UCB radio. If you've never listened before I would recommend it. My favourite Christian band is Rend Collective Experiment. They are like a Christian version of Mumford and Sons.

thanks for your replies!
findingme I love loads of different ones (just namechanged!), I fast ones, ballad types, gospel things - all good.
I like trad. hymns too.

even kids' Bible songs! Grin

raindrops - how do I find UCB? what frequency etc?

I have very sensitive ears (hyperacusis), so I don't ever listen to the radio, as unless it's tuned very well I just can't bear the electrical noise of it Sad

but I would love to give UCB a go! maybe I can listen to it through my Smartphone?
I did listen to either that station or something similar in someone else' car and the chat bit was brilliant!

how do I find Christian radio stations?( this is exciting!)

Unfortunately UCB isn't available on normal FM radios, but it is on DAB digital radio. There are a few different stations - I listen to UCB UK but there is also a gospel station and an 'inspirational' station. Or you can listen online at UCB.co.uk, or it's on sky and virgin media. There is also a smartphone app.

Raindrops I was going to say Rend Collective, I love their stuff especially the new album. I'm into Mumford and Sons so it follows - also like David Crowder Band who are similar, more indie in style with folksy and old southern gospel stuff, it's really fabulous and worth a listen to - try their newer album Give us rest

I like Gungor, Starfield, Casting Crowns, Switchfoot (a bit more rocky in feel with country style riffs), some Matt Redman/Chris Tomlin/Hughes et al, though find all that gets a bit samey (apart from the most excellent 10,000 Reasons of course!)

I like Owl City for a different more techno sound, lyrics not overtly Christian but the band members are and there are some gems in there.

Would second Hillsong Utd 'Zion' - was getting a bit bored of the whole Hillsong sound, but this is a welcome departure - really refreshing with great lyrics and some genius eighties-esque sounds. 'A million suns' is particularly memorable.

I like Newsboys and YFriday for a more mainstream sound.

Sure I will think of some more....if I could choose one to go for, I'd say the David Crowder one.

is Mumford a Christian band?

No Mumford isn't a Christian band but Rend Collective sound similar to them with a Christian message. My favourite is their version of Be Thou My Vision

Mumford and Sons are not a Christian band overtly, but their lead singer is from a Christian background and seems to have a faith - many of the lyrics point to that etc etc - lovely stuff. Marcus Mumford's parents are pastors in the Vineyard movement. Either way, they're genius :)

what about The Gentlemen, Phillipa Hanna, Pete James, Gareth Robinson (get his best of - is a contemporary of Tim Hughes) [the last 2 have both been worship leaders at our church, so I am biased, but they are great - Madhair will agree with me re Pete if not Gareth!]
