Shocked by book 'In God's House'

Nearly posted in Adult Fiction but swerved at the last minute.

I picked this up second hand a few weeks ago.

It's haunting me.

The book is about the child abuse in America from the 80s onwards and how a German Pope helped to hide it.

Absolutely harrowing.

Are there any Catholics on MN?

Does his story ring true?

Haven't read the book, but it does sound like it's in line with what we know about the Catholic Church and its abuse cover ups.

I don't really understand why it was hidden. Surely they must have known that eventually it would get out and it would have been far better to admit it at the time and do something about it than wait for someone else to report it and destroy any illusions that people had about the Catholic Church being 'good'. They were obviously scared it would damage their reputation..... well it's much worse now!

I had no idea that Pope Benedict emeritus was so implicated.

And did nothing.

Have a look at what is happening in Germany and why a pope might:

a) suddenly resign and
b) not return to his home country

I don't think they thought it would ever come out. It was an open secret for many years. You didn't tell your parents what the teachers at school did, or if you did they backed them up (note: only one incident I was involved in could be described as sexual).

In many cases you went to the same school your parents had been to and your parents were as scared of the teachers as you.

And that's the teachers. Priests were on another level all together.

I think the reason this 'broke' in the USA is because there are 'militants' for want of a better word.

Thank you for your links. I've done a lot of reading about the previous 'Pope'.
Not good at all Sad.

I'm so glad that the US broke cover. I think the law chappie should actually be honoured in some way. To stand up against the

Gave everybody else credence.
