Christian music for kids?

harrisey · 12/03/2006 19:16

I need some new music!!
My kids really enjoy the CDs we have but they are driving me insane! We have the ELC 'Hymns and Songs for Children'. a couple of Spring Harvest Little Kids Praise and Doug Horley's 'Whoopah Whahey'. Could do with something a little more grown up for dd1 (6), but that the others (4 and 2) will like as well. DD2 likes to dance!
What do you have thats good that you would recommend.

Thanks!
The trouble with the WO website is I can't HEAR it and I need to know if it will make my brain liquefy and drain out through my toes.
Dd1 likes Robin Mark but thats starting to make my ears hurt too - should start a thread for adult music too!

Hijack over, but on that note we have 2 veggie tales soundtrack type things (though dd is not yet 3).

Also, she just seems to like the stuff we like. We love aband called CJM (they're Catholic, but play at the Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage too and are fab fab fab!!!)

WW - CLC here has loads of Veggie Tales CDs - shall I send a couple? They are v good. Also the junior CDs from Spring Harvest tend to be good (IIRC). We have some good ones (inc Powerhouse!) such as Kid's Heart of Worship and another one just known as the Noah CD (ds1 still thinks that Noah sings all the songs...) but it came from NI. Maybe a hunt when you're over would yield results.

we have just dpent the last hour in the car listening to Stories and Songs of Jesus by Christopher Walker - you can buy then from \link{http://www.decanimusic.co.uk/OCPPubsAuthor_ComposerPage13.html\here} They are brilliant 0- all biblically based and will help your children to elarn their bible stories. DS2 knows the 12 apostles names because of this CD and he's only 2 [smug emoticon] Grin

Veggie Tales!! We love it but don't have any CDs - where is 'here'?, hannahsaunt? I get the impression you are talking about Northern Ireland, if so that would be great as dh is from Belfast and we will be there at Easter, where is the CLC shop?

Lots of great ideas here, thanks. I really want to find some good quality stuff a la Doug Horley etc, just cos its CHristian music doesn't mean to say it needs to be cr*p, but it so often is.

Hi Harrisey - sorry - 'here' is sunny Townsville in north Queensland...we're coming back in July hence the offer to WW to bring some home...Another good one we've discovered out here is the stuff by Hillsong - don't know if it's available at home but worth looking out for.

Waswondering, I have fond (if warped) memories of Psalty the singing songbook, we used to act it out in front of an audience, and I was dressed up as Psalty, LOL!

I just Googled Psalty to jog my memory, we performed the musical 'Psalty's Christmas Calamity'! Oh what happy days! Grin

PandaG, I love Great Big God, always gets the kids going, that one.

\link{http://www.colinbuchanan.com.au\Colin Buchanan} is fantastic - he's the Wiggles of children's Christian music. He is a very successful country/folk musician in his own right, and he is VERY Australian. But the songs are great. Also have some awesome memory verses built in.

'In the Biiiiii-ble, in Eph-eeeeeeesians,
Cha-pter 4, verse 32,
God says be kind to one anoooooooother...'

Very cheesy but good wholesome stuff!

My 2 loved the Colin Buchanan videos they were plonked in front of at various times while we were in Perth last year. They still mention Colin from time to time, like some old friend!

We love Great Big God, and Great Big God 2 is currently getting some air play in our house (because GBG is in the car). It's not as good as the first one, but, IMO better than the insipid go-to-sleep style of god's wonderful world and even the Little Kids' Praise stuff (although the kids like both).

My younger sister (nearly 30) apparently still has our Kids Praise cassette featuring Psalty, and is known to play it in the car. Purely for nostalgia value, I think.

we have great big god and children's priase songs (by children's ministry) and a whole heap of Andy Gawn ones, which are FANTASTIC. I'll see if I can find out where they're available. I have a friend in Aberdeen who's a friend of his and she always sells them to us at church...

hillsongs kids are great and kid's spring harvest too. my nephew has a veggietales one.
