Whats in a Dream?

Hi Spirit Mumsnetters,

There are often MNetters asking for help with dreams so maybe we could give assistence. For me this would be great so I could learn more about my dreams, how to interpret dreams and to, (I read this yesterday and it struck a chord) ..."bring things from other realms for the benefit of all; acting as a conduit to the unconscious world, to racial memory, to a psychic pool shared by all sentient beings" :)

Meg&Soph gave a great link to a dream website the other day... \link{http://www.dreammoods.com<a class="break-all" href="http://www.dreammoods.com}." rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">www.dreammoods.com}. Which is got lots of information. As well as using our own intuition et al.

Here is a dream for analysis and contemplation. \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=153263\Anyone know anything about dreams?}

LillyPink have a look at waves and water on the dream moods site, oh and stranger.

Try asking yourself before going to sleep at night for further clarification from your dream. Also how do you feel when you first wake up?

I think the stranger aspect is a good mirror for you to reflect upon.

:)

Thanks, P. I have looked the other symbols up and I am a bit blown away by it. Without going into details it correlates very much so with aspects of my life at the moment.

I am going to have a good look at the site later. I am really fasinated about dreams, isn't the human mind amazing and also mysterious!?!

No need for details :) the most important thing is what resonates within yourself and if you wish to act upon what you see from the dream. You will know if it is right if the dream does not re-occur - because the lesson is learnt. The mind is an amazing place and I feel when we sleep we let energy being more prevalent than in our waking hours. So symbology and dreaming go well together.

I wrote this down recently..."the way I look at and interpret dreams is that they are thought processes with powerful intent. We don't often ge a chance to visulise during the day and feelings we have come out at night. I notice that my dreams manifest in both te day and night if you can be open and aware. With that in mind it is important for peace and hapiness in yourself and others if you are mindful of what you are thinking in the day and night.

The thoughts/dreams you have are doors or options you can have, cravings, fears and choices. How much you act upon them is part of the magic and makings of life.

I am no expert at the meanings of various symbols of dreaming yet. Rather I see patterns.

I bought a dream book recently as pregnancy seems to really get those dreams going. Also now with the frequent waking to feed baby I remember so much more of my dreaming.

Quite afew dreams there Buffy. They all seem to have a theme of torment to them. Have you looked at the "Dream moods" site?

I have thought about the Monkey dream first. The Monkey dream made me think there is a story about a monkey and boar and I have linked one below.

I thought about them from Chinese astrology perspective aso... saw this on a site... The Monkey gets on splendidly with the Rat, Dog, Dragon and Boar, although naive Boar needs to realize the Monkey is always three steps ahead of the game. Like the Monkey, the Boar is intellectual, a character with a great thirst for knowledge.

In short, the Monkey can do anything. For this reason, in Asia the birthrate skyrockets in the Monkey year!!!

I also have dreams when I am drifting off to sleep, yet I am still awake, ifyswim. I'll know that I am going to fall asleep because I am dreaming??!!!!!

That may sound odd, and people I have told this too find it hard to understand........

Strange...

Nice post btw Papillon

That sounds like Lucid Dreaming LillyPink. I also do this, drift off to sleep while walking into a dream. It is a good way for me to fall asleep as I am very tired atm (3 month ds).

Have not read much about it yet. My dream book covers it but have not got to that yet. Think the dream moods site also has it.

Hi Paps - have you anything on red dragons (poss lucid dream) I've searched loads but can't really find anything.

Dragons are featuring in my work atm Iris, I am working with an illustrator friend on a children´s dream story featuring a dragon :)

I have nothing in my book about even Dragon´s.

Have you looked much at chinese Astrology for any hints of recognition? Or Western Astrology - does your ds have much heat / fire in his signs?

This is what I have found about the Red Dragon - which you may have already discovered for yourself.

The Red Dragon
A piece used in Mahjong. It has the chinese character of "center" on it.

The Rouge Dragon Pursuivant is a junior officer of arms of the College of Arms, named after the red dragon of Wales. So hence the National Welsh flag is the red dragon.

Many legends are associated with the Welsh dragon. The most famous is the prophecy of Myrddin (or Merlin) of a long fight between a red dragon and a white dragon. According to the prophecy, the white dragon would at first dominate but eventually the red dragon would win. This believed to represent the conflict in the 5th and 6th centuries between the British Celts (who later became the Welsh) and the invading Saxons.

Hope I have been able to help a little :)

papillon, just read the link about the monkey and the boar.bit of a coincidence though taht the man in the story was called barbarus and the demon in my dream was called barbus (or if the spelling was wrong,it could be the same name).ive never heard of that story before either,so it strange that my dream involved the monkey, boar and barbus!!

The intergalactic highway of the dreamscape where Buffy anything is possible! It is not so often that these astral journies surface in this World we know - which makes them seem weird :)

The baby dream you had to me seems to be symbolising your need to nuture and listen to yourself. Which is always good!

have had another extremely weird dream, and thought i'd share it incase anyone knows what the meaning is!
i was in a very posh hotel, with loads of celebs.i was dying for a pee,and asked this snooty woman where the loos were.she didnt sya anything, just pointed in the direction i needed to go.i went in there, and it was a mess!(considering the hotel was so posh, you'd have thought they would have spent abit on the loos!!Grin).anyway,it was like a bomb had gone off, everything was broken.i went in to one of the cubicals, which had a massive hole in the door.i sat on the loo,but couldnt pee!i sat there for ages and then i heard voices and i looked through the hole.i could see ME sat on the toilet and everyone was laughing!it sounded like there was hundreds of people laughing, but there was only 2 women in there!anyway, they went out,and i was still sat there, then, denholm elliot (old film star i think) came in with a machette and started to try to kill me!he kept looking through the hole and saying i was going be chopped up!i stood up,and the toilet was full of towels and psycho denholm shouted 'thats why you couldnt pee'.i ran outside and was in a really big room (like a ballroom)and i was wearing a ball gown, but everyone else was dressed in jeans.i ran to find someone to help me get away from denholm (who wasnt there anymore) then i got pulled by my arm into a side room.it was pitch black, but i could hear breathing.i went to speak, and someone kissed me.it got rather saucy at that point,(the usual ripping off clothes and extremely passionate bonking session was to follow!)then,i got up and put a light on,the man i had just been bonking senseless, was the lead singer from the foo fighters (think his name is dave grohl, but not sure) anyway,he kept smiling at me and i went for a shower,he came in there with me and started singing 'best of you' but with the shower head in his mouth!and i kept laughing.woke up then, and have been baffled all day!!
any ideas?

I just had a dream about a loo Buffy. And so have been reading about this. A toilet symbolises cleansing on some level. If the toilet dirty then more self lifestyle, path ways need looking at. It is definate a message for change. The man trying to kill you and the loo say to me that you need to protect yourself more - do you know about grounding and protection. Google if you don´t could be a good idea. Especially when you dream strongly, it helps with dreaming.

I feel because you began your dream in a rich space, then the toilet dirty then the ballroom rich again symbolises yourself in periods of your life and in the way your life is emotionally. You see positive but also separation in your life.

Sexual dreams fascinate me and I have had alot of experience with this. Feel like Blush sort of! That they were known to you I think is often common in dreams, how I don´t know. I have more experience with people I know.

Ask your dreams for further details.

:)

Hi papillon and all,
I'm a big believer in the improtance of dreams so this is very interesting to me.

I had a dream over 2 years ago that was recurrent. I knew it symbolised something very important for the future but kept waiting and waiting? Then I kept worrying it signified my death! Shock So, when it all came apparent last December and is still going on now it came as a bit of a relief. It is the death of something but not me (I hope not yet!) and the rebirth of something new. Hard times at the moment but I know there'll be light at the end.

Oh I have lots of sexual dreams. Does anyone have them with someone who in real life would run a mile from yet in their dreams they enjoy it? I find them quite disturbing, especially as my dreams can be very vivid.

Hi Ulysees I like the people I have sex in dreams - but am tempted by others who I say no to. I make the conscoious decision, affirmation before sleeping.
