Sorry i know I'm not BU but I need the traffic for this.
The labour council in Woolwich have decided against a memorial in Woolwich for Lee Rigby. Full story here www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/10841345/Lee-Rigby-memorial-in-Woolwich-should-be-allowed-say-Muslim-groups.html
I think the reasons behind the decision are spurious and show that the council involved do not have any understanding of the countries feelings of this tragic event.

In all honesty it depends on the memorial, plaque on a wall, park bench, fine.

Big off statue or monument? No.

It will come across as harsh but he didn't do anything spectacular to deserve anything big. He just died a horrible death from some nut jobs.

The ultimate sacrifice in the service of your country is not 'nothing spectacular'. OK, so many others make the same sacrifice, but these circumstances are certainly very unusual and rightly attract special attention.

It wills hopefully be a 5ft obelisk with space for wreaths near the place of his death and visible from the road.
Really fifi nothing spectacular? If nothing else he was a member of our armed forces doing a difficult job for his country. He was murdered by Muslim extremists for wearing a t shirt advertising a charity! If he wasn't a soldier would you be signing it then?

Thank you zep and uncleT. The reason this means so much to me is that last night there was a disgusting Facebook link doing the rounds which highlighted the difference between the number of memorials Stephen Lawrence has and the number lee Rigby has. It was almost BNP recruiting material and made me feel sick.

I don't think Stephen Lawrence should have one either!

He didn't make the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country, he was walking to work.

It's not me that's making it an issue about him being a soldier. I think just because he was a soldier he should get a monument. He was a guy that was murdered that's all. Should every murdered person have the same?
