to hope Manchester City Council see sense over Night and Day Cafe and possible closure

Manchester City Council have issued the Night and Day Cafe in the Northern Quarter with a noise abatement order. This is after ONE neighbour who has lived there for less than a year has made a complaint.

The Night and Day has been there for 23 years and is a key part of the city's cultural heritage. So far Frank Turner and Tim Burgess have come out to support the Cafe which would be no longer be able to have live bands which would force the closure of the venue.

The Night and Day launched a petition yesterday. Its now got over 30,000 signatures already. That's how important it is to music lovers in the city.

AIBU to think that who ever made the complaint is a monumental twat who should have been aware that they were moving so close to a music venue (in the bleeding noisy at the best of times Northern Quarter) and its part and parcel of living there and to think the jobsworths at the council need to take a long hard look at this and reconsider?

Oh, I love Night And Day. Is the petition online?

YANBU. Who the fuck moves to the Northern Quarter looking for peace and quiet?

Exactly!

MCC piss me off generally. It is one big den of corruption.

Can't believe some numpty has moved next door to Night And Day and then kicked off about the noise. Didn't they spot it when they were buying their fancy pad? Hmm

Yanbu. It's like moving to Wales and then complains when people speak Welsh. If I was the Council I would say to the complainant 'Get with the program, Girlfriend'.

I saw this on my Facebook yesterday and signed it immediately. It's an outrage that an institution of over 20 years' standing can be put in jeopardy, along with the livelihoods of everyone who works there, by one moron who didn't do the most basic research before renting/buying their home.

Absolute joke.

Similar thing when they built flats close to Ministry of Sound then the developers starting trying to dictate noise. I think they were given short shrift though.

Bit like people who move near a church and then complain about the bells ringing.

Some people are just twats.

Agree with the comments about moving to the NQ and expecting peace and quiet! As long as Night & Day are sticking to the rules re noise levels then surely they can't be closed down?

It's ludicrous. You move into a flat next door to a live music venue then complain about the noise?! Twat of the highest order. Move to the suburbs FFS, that's what the rest of us do when we get fed up of the city centre, and it's cheaper!

Signed.

It's a tenant, as well, so they could actually just move out no bother. What a high knobber.

I knew a woman that moved onto the Redbricks in Hulme and complained about the noise. She was lodging with a multicoloured old school punk! Some people just like to set up a drama in their lives, I think. Their problems: so forseeable, so solvable (move out!!).

Never heard of the place before today & someone who works for me posted this in her Facebook & sent me a message.

Totally ridiculous. It's a city centre for goodness sake.
