If you are in favour of women bishops, please take a minute (seriously, that's all it takes), to sign the petition that will presented to the Diocesan representatives on the General Synod before the vote on Tuesday. The reason that this is so important is that in order to allow women bishops, all three houses - bishops, clergy and the lay house must give a 2/3 majority. The bishop and clergy houses are likely to have an overwhelming majority in favour, but the result is too close to call in the lay house.
Click on the link below, fill in your name and which diocese / church you are connected to, and that's it: but you need to do it NOW!

If you'd like more information, it can be found on //www.womenandthechurch.org, from where I have taken some key points:
Twenty years ago (11.11.92) General Synod voted to ordain women as priests. Today we have over three thousand women ministering in parishes and others in chaplaincies in hospitals, prisons, schools and universities. One in three priests is female and almost 50% of new ordinands.
General Synod voted on a motion to ordain women as deacon, priest and bishop in 1978 ? it lost. We have been discussing this issue ever since ? for a whole generation. All the dioceses in the country have been consulted and at every step of the way support for this legislation to enable women to be bishops has been overwhelming: 42 of 44 dioceses voted ?yes? ? with more than 75% of all votes cast in favour.
Another 10 years going over and over the same arguments would cripple the Church?s credibility and mission. It would also deprive the Church of the skills and wisdom of women bishops. To waste our time and talents in this way would be quite wrong.
According to the Bible, women and men are equally made in God?s image. Images and perceptions of women that demean that truth are still prevalent across the world and damage all women?s sense of identity and self-worth.
