you get used to it

anyway, your brain can work it out if most of the letters are there as you only scan it to read

spellcheckers are the WORST idea for people who can't spell. You'd lose any sense there was to begin with!

Report
tortoise · 22/05/2008 13:39

As long as i can read it i don't care!

Report
MehgaLegs · 22/05/2008 13:40

They can spell. So if we are being pedantic you need to rephrase your title.

zippitippitoes · 22/05/2008 13:43

there arent even that many poeple who type like that i can only think of a few

I think that it is very rude and not 'charming' or 'quirky'. It says that the poster thinks that (a) typing properly in the first place and (b) previewing is a waste of her valuable time. And it doesn't matter that several hundred MNers have to waste several hundred times more effort in trying to decipher the mess.
I can (just about) forgive the odd misspelling/typo but not reams of the stuff. I don't bother reading it - if the poster is not concerned enough to make their message intelligible then it probably isn't that important anyway IMHO.

Everyone can type. You only have to hit the right keys
If you can't touch type, look at the damn keys

You are right, redwino, although it would be a bit tiresome if someone wrote whole pars of muddled text. BUT importantly we look at the overall shape of a word first, rather than the letters. SO IT IS MUCH HARDER TO READ LOTS OF TEXT IN BLOCK CAPS BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE ASCENDERS AND DESCENDERS.

see I think I've officially been here too long as I read that perfectly easily.

Cod you've got a lot to answer for.

I didn't make any distinction etween "spelling" and "typing" because the end result is the same! But I see some people are making a distinction, which nowadays I think is snobbish and outdated. (Just a personal opinion, you may disagree).
Some peopke seem to think it's acceptable to not be able to TYPE (ie find the letters on the keyboard) but do want you to know that they can SPELL, they are too busy to waste their time trying to type properly.
But if you don't TYPE properly (at least some of the time!), people won't know if it's because you can't spell or can't type, so it still gives a bad impression.
I think this is a hangover from the old days when "typists" worked in the typing pool and were considered inferior to those who dictated letters ("managers") so if you could type properly you were considered merely "skilled" rather than managerial.
But isn't it time we lost the distinction between spelling and typing now that everybody (virtually) uses keyboards and typing is more commonplace then handwriting?
Phew! That's it. No offence intended.
