from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities - an e-mail sent to all students advertising a seminar on the subject of 'Irony and It's Double'... thought you ladies would appreciate

(you know, I actually read that grammatically & thought how interesting (as you do))

Reminds me of once walking across a campus & hearing two academics in front talking about how "a critical position" was open in their department (Literature) - and I immediately (without irony) thought, "Oh I wonder if it's a feminist position, or a new-historical one, or perhaps even structuralism"

As an undergraduate in an Arts and Humanities faculty I used to very much enjoy the fact that ours was the only toilet block where the graffiti consisted of Petrarchan sonnets and a bit of earnestly etched Byron. Lordy we were pretentious.

Bink, I thought how interesting too. I can't allow it to be a mistake, it's a horrid thought.

The correction came out ten minutes later... but it did make me laugh out loud. I was quite keen to go, but don't think I'll bother now...

Actually I don't really know the person I thought you might be, anyway - I'd just clocked that she had excellent taste in names, and in fact her dd was the only other Romy I'd ever come across.

I just assumed that it was a two hour seminar instead of one hour. Is that wrong?

I read it as being a literary theory seminar which will climax with the amusing idea that irony has a doppelganger which is erm.. gawd, I dunno, bathos?
