Scone: Rhymes with gone or phone?

I understood that the former was the "refined" way of saying it although many believe that it's the latter.

Well we say it to rhyme with phone. Of course if you are really common 'rock cake' works as well

Though I don't think I've heard anyone in RL call it a scone like phone.

I would rhyme it with gone. My Dad, though, used to say it like "scoon" - he liked to be different, and I think that's how the place in Scotland with the same name is pronounced!

I had a friend who used to say theatre odd. With all the stress on the middle syllable. Drove me wild.

Not nearly as wild as the way she used to say turqiouse thogh. Makes me shudder.

I have always rhymed it with phone, but DP says that is poncey and pretentious.
I always thought "gone" was the poncier (prob because my mum's Hyacinth Bucket-esque friend said it like that), but DP is posher than me, so I s'pose I should defer to his superior knowledge on these matters...

And while were at it, the cream goes on first, then the jam.
