The way my MIL speaks is starting to depress me!

triffic for terrific

I'm just going for a wee (fine for potty trainee, not fine for 61 year old woman)
Need I go on?

Am I the only one who cringes when the PIls open their mouths?

Oh, I cringe pretty often when my MOL opens her mouth - and she is speaking French, not English. And then the children copy her, and when I correct them they say "Oh, but Maminou says it". Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh God I am both pedant and horrible snob! While we are on the subject DP says refuge instead of refuse (as in rubbish)... grounds for separation?

That's nothing. Mine told DD1 "you isn't eatin nuffink" when she was a baby, and I cringed

I don't know if you have ever seen the Aussie comedy Kath and Kim but they make a real play on the specific/pacific thing - a classic line being " So where pacifically in the Specific are you going Mrs D ?"

Aaargh! I sat on an interview panel (for an academic job) this week and the Chair insisted on using 'pacifically' at every opportunity. He also asked the candidates at the end if they had 'any pacific questions about the job' (better than nasty warmongering questions, I suppose).

My mum not only says 'speck' instead of 'expect', but actually writes it like that too. I love her though, so would never mention it. I just cringe inwardly!

My DP says "guesstimate" which really grates.

actually I would consider refuse instead of 'rubbish' grounds for separation
