Pedants' corner

Me or I

I'm sending a Facebook message to my Auntie and cannot work out which is correct.

Love DH, DD and I

or

Love DH, DD and Me

Neither one sounds correct to me! I've read that you should take out the other people and see which sounds better. 'Love I' definitely seems wrong, but 'Love Me' does too... Help!
(my Aunt won't care but I'm curious!)

Use your name?
Confused

Grin at pedantry on FB!

Surely it needs your name? If you really must not, then the me option is better than the I option.

I think it's 'Me, DH & DD' but if you're writing it as if it's a card greeting, better to use your name instead of me or I IMO.

Take out the other names and see if it's me or I. That's how to decide which you should use in any context.

Would you write "Love I"?

Your name as you would in a birthday card.

Your name

The reason it sounds weird is because 'love' signed like that at the end of a letter ir card etc is really short for 'love from'. If you put 'love from', you should use 'me', not 'I'. ('from me' is correct of course - you would never say 'from I').

tak1ng - that is very good advice usually, but doesn't really work in this context because the OP isn't really using a full sentence.

Yes it does work. You could write "Love, me" but never "Love I"

Thank you! I thought 'Love me' sounded best but wasn't 100%

I thought putting my name would be slightly redundant as it says above it that I wrote the post. I know I'm over thinking this, Facebook is full of terrible grammar, but it annoyed me that I didn't know which was correct!
