The marketing slogan of the cafe chain Apostrophe is "Great taste on it's way". I blame the teacher's.

Do you think they're trying to be ironic? Have you emailed them?

More to the point is OP being ironic in her opening title?

I assumed she was!

It is clearly sarcasm, yes.

But a hell of a lot of people aren't going to get it.

What a silly name for a café. And an even sillier slogan.

It's not funny.

The title was meant to be ironic. The odd thing about apostrophes is that they are easy to get right - or should be - if you follow the simple rules. Greengrocers like to hedge their bets though, and have signs that read "apple's and pears" for example. They must know one of them is wrong, they just don't know which.

I saw someone whose surname ends in the letter S put an apostrophe before that final S a few days ago. "The Jone's are going to Disneyland" (name and destination changed.)
It made me want to cry.

The teacher's apostrophe, obviously.

Someone have us a t-shirt for DC the other day that said 'Daddys little angel'. It's hideous. The lack of apostrophe pleased me as it made me feel less guilty about immediately sending it to a charity shop.

I teach English and encourage kids to take pictures of errant apostrophes. The other day I saw a great one but didn't dare take a pic as it was tattooed across the top of someone's arse. Smile

I would prefer all apostrophes to be removed than have them used incorrectly.

A friend saw a sign for "Ladie's haircuts" somewhere , will see if I can find the picture.
