Yes, UKIP. You're not in the wrong bit of Mumsnet.

I just noticed that all references to UKIP in yesterday's Guardian have it as "Ukip". This means that this abbreviation has already (at least in the Guardian) achieved de facto acronym status, like "laser" and "scuba". I'm not saying this is anything new, but I've only just noticed it.

This is serious. Winning 24 seats in the MEP election is one thing, but getting the Guardian to turn you from four capital letters to a word is a whole other matter...

Ugh! At least make it 'UKip'. For some reason, it sounds like a command to sleep. Never noticed that before...

Just do it like my coworker and pronounce it 'Youkaiaypee' - spelled 'Ukip' if you prefer. Grin

I have also noticed this, and noticed myself bloody doing it. But I can't stop!

It's like Pringles. Once you stop holding down shift pop, you can't start again stop. Okay, that needs some work.

Mind you, it makes a member of the party a Ukipper. Which is strangely satisfying.
