Job titles on CVs

Hi pedants,

I'm putting together my CV and was just wandering if you would use capitals for job titles. I don't usually, but it seems that lots of people do use capitals....

TIA

I'm only mentioning it because this is PC, but I think you mean "wondering".

Anyway, I think your question is just a stylistic one. Even with a unique job like prime mininster, some newspapers will say "the prime minister announced..." and some "the Prime Minister announced...". Given a CV is the one place where it's all about selling yourself, I would have thought capital letters might lend some significance to the job title. On the other hand, if you are applying somewhere and their ad is clearly in the lower case style, you might want to fit in with that.

Aagh, misspelt "minister". Would have to be on PC.

At least I didn't say "a more unique job" or use the wrong "their" / "there". Smile

I would use capitals for job titles, but I enjoy sprinkling capitals everywhere like they did in the 19th Century.

I do agree with the pp re using the style given in the job advert, if there is one (a style, I mean).

Otherwise, do what you prefer. Or tailor it to the kind of job you're applying for. If it's to a modern marketing firm, for example, then lower case is the way to go since they use lower case for everything, the twats. If it's for a job at The Pedants' Club then capitals might be preferable.

No, I wouldn't use caps for job titles. Looks A Bit Overimportant. Plus too many caps make text hard to read.
But so long as you're consistent, it's OK.
