Pippin Puppets - Kate Harper - is fabulous. She is north london but travelled to me (central london) so you never know. She cost £100 for an hour. She had a choice of shows for everyage. We had a pirates and princess one as it was a pirate themed party. She kept every child rivited for the entire time (including some quite difficult boys) and even the parents did not chat together as I had expected, but watched the show as it was so good.

For my DS's 5th birthday near Chiswick this year I booked a very good entertainer through Twizzle Parties . Not cheap at £240, but he kept the kids amused the whole time. Boo Productions have also done some good parties and Patchy Peter (an older magician / entertainer) has been recommended. I would have to find his number but I think he charges around £170. What venue are you thinking of?

Interesting, I didn't know you could hire Bob's for parties. I too was shocked when I first found out the price of entertainers and to be honest can't quite believe we paid that much. It must be possible to find a decent one for less - please post if you do!

bobs is £17 an hour and you dont get charged for the hour to set up. went to a party there on sunday and thought thats it i found great place. but the kids were playing outside as such a nice day - now im wondering whether its gonna be big enough when they cant play outside in nov. and need table for 30+ kids - need to go back and check it out,

last year ds was in nursery school and only invited 3 friends to snakes and ladders. but then he never got invited to any of the others parties - which i suppose if you go along the lines did they invite ds it would be right. so this year we are inviting the class so no-one feels left out. i thought the cheapest way of doing this would be a hall - now im wondering.

where are they days of having a few friends kicking a ball around the local park then down to mcdonalds.!!!

Yikes! I can't believe how much these entertainers cost! Round here (in the deepest depths of the country) a bouncy castle is considered pretty fancy!!

was talking to the mum whose party we went to and she paid £80 for the entertainer. party started at 1pm entertainer did 1.15 for an hour. just time for couple more games after tea and cake etc. that sounds great for me as paying entertainer for 2 hours is bit much . does that sound ok??

Back now, with glass of wine in hand. Well, i have to say from where i was sitting JK is a safe bet. The party was for 4 yr old, so a mix of ages there. Perfect for a 5 yr old, if he's willing to get up and assist with tricks. Two hours flew by, with a proper show with all the kids sitting on the floor participating. Then JK amused them whilst eating tea, then did a dancing/dressing up game until home time. And the most brilliant balloon models to bring home. All the kids seemed to enjoy her. Definately worth calling her to see how much.

thnak i will get in touch and get a quote - will let you know. the balloons are a nice idea but at £1.50 per child thats another £45 on top of eveything else - did she make the balloons in the two hours as it must have took a while. what did she do while the kids were eating? sorry so many questions. the entertainer at a friends party the other day charged £85 for the hour. so was thinking party starts 1pm - entertainer does 1.15 to 2.15. then they can eat do cake etc. by the time we play couple of other games it would be over. so do you think its ok to have the entertainer for 1 hour slot?

She had balloons ready made in a couple of bin liners. She showed the children the various designs during the show, explained they were a special present from the family. Towards end of tea she went round the table asking each child what they would like & writing their names on to give out at end of party. Then she led the happy birthday song and straight into the dancing game - the jelly kelly dance? - for the last 15 mins. The kids loved it, they all behaved so well and joined in.

We used Pippins Puppets for our son's fourth birthday and I'm sorry to say that the theatre blew over in the wind hurting my son. We were in a park and the wooden theatre fell straight onto the front row of children, cutting my sons nose. I strongly advise that Kate secures the theatre in to the ground with tent pegs and that all parents check the theatre is secure. It was very shocking and a sad event to take place at a party. The kids were certainly enthralled by the show but this must not happen again.
