Indoor picnic for 4yo DS's birthday party. Ideas?

He's a little obsessed with picnics, do rather than lay out a buffet I thought I would sling 4 or 5 picnic blankets on the hall floor (it's a big enough space) and then pack a 'hamper' for each blanket with standard party fare and let them all help themselves.

So, questions -

Anyone know where I can buy large cardboard picnic hampers? I've seen small individual ones online but i'd much rather do big ones than one per child.

Any other ideas for decorations, things to go that are picnicy?

Best picnicy foods?

All ideas much appreciated thanks!

Why not hire some

Think this is a great idea for a party, he's sure to love it. Usual food for parties or picnics, marmite sarnies (see Nigellas How to Eat) always go down well, I used to make little cheese/tomato puff pastry squares as well as sausage rolls, hula hoop type crisps, those iced rings that only ever get eaten at children's parties, etc.. Does he have any preference for picnic food?

If I were you, I would really do a 'hamper' each, but maybe with the sandwiches as pick your own? To save all the nice goodies being swiped by a few! You can buy cardboard party boxes pretty cheap and just put some fruit (maybe but loads of those apple/grape bags you get in tesco etc), a bag of crisps/baby crisps, box of raisins, small fairy cake? Something like that anyway :)

We did a picnic for ds a few years ago. I agree with misty do a hamper each if you can. For one it avoids over catering and they also doubled as the party bags so in with the food they got their party bag favours and I added their cake at the end.
The children loved it. Did do sandwich platters so they could choose their own though.
