7yo party - am I missing something?

DD1 has requested an "at home" party this year negotiated down from a sleepover

I'm sure I'm missing something though. This is the plan: (by the way, not in UK, and it's winter here, so outside play not an option)

Total 14 7yo girls oh dear god help me
Time: 2:30 - 4:00
Frozen theme (DD is obsessed, she doesn't know I'm making the party a "Frozen Party")

Kids arrive, do some dancing and general playing. DH is in charge of decor - he has plans involving paper snowflakes and fairy lights.

Once everyone has arrived: games: pin the nose on Olaf, musical statues, etc etc

About 3:15 party food
Sandwiches
Cupcakes
Fruit skewers
Biscuits
(Maybe jelly and icecream)
Popcorn
"Olaf noses" (baby carrots)

Then cake
(Almost all the food with have to be home made/baked as DD2 has dairy and egg allergies and I'd like to not have to stress about her getting things she isn't allowed have, which will truly ruin the party).

After cake, more dancing, maybe one more game. DD has made noises about a piñata so DH may be looking into that.

All go home at 4:00 and I collapse in a heap with a large gin.

But I feel like I'm missing something. The party is 10 days away.

Any expert advice gladly welcomed. I thought of doing something crafty with them at some stage...

Oh sod it, and party bags too. There will have to be party bags, won't there?

Sounds good to me. I had half that many little girls a few years ago. They got so over excited they started running laps around my house, before I could stop them one little girl ran straight into a wall! Luckily she didn't do herself any major damage. I like the sound of the dancing to get some of that energy out

You've only given them 1.5 h for the party? Even my friends' pre-schoolers get longer than that, usually 2h+! Shock

OK, things you may have missed:
If your ears can stand it, Karaoke for the Frozen songs. Just get earplugs, they'll LOVE it.
Possible face painting - home-done or maybe snowflake transfers?
Frozen Quiz?

Food:
You're a wee bit lacking in savoury/protein - maybe some small sausages? If you get the standard beef ones from a butcher, they should be free of annoying substances for your DD, and you can twist them down into cocktail sausage size (this is what I do for DSs as I cannnot abide those disgusting little red things)
And/or some crisps? I tend to buy a 20 bag mixed multipack and let them take one each when they want some, because that way I don't end up with half a bowl of soggy unhygienic crisps at the end of the day (gak!)

Honestly though? It sounds great but I cannot see you getting all of that and a pinata into 1.5h. You have to allow for 14 hyped up girls shrieking around doing their own thing in between you trying to organise them - it's either going to be rushed or you're going to have to miss things out.

And yes to the party bags - they seem to be de rigueur here. :)

While I honestly don't believe you'll have any extra time for "something crafty", can I suggest building meringue snowmen? Or would the eggwhite component be too dangerous for your DD?

Could you put frozen on in background with subtitles and do some singing along?

Maybe a craft type activity for any more shy girls?

For party bags I'd try and get something like a themed colouring book or story book and some stickers.

It's not 1.5 hours. I'm slow of brain today. I actually meant 2:00 to 4:30. So, 2.5 hours Grin

I've added crisps and sausages to the list.

The snowman idea sounds great, but egg white is just too risky to have around. We don't allow eggs in the house at all. And even pre-made meringues would be too risky.

Karaoke frozen. Sounds fab :) Shall invest in the earplugs though if DD's renditions are anything to go by.

I'm sure you're aware but some crisps have milk in I think. Just in case your dd can't have them. My friend found out when her lactose intolerant son threw up everywhere. Party sounds hell great by the way Wink

Yes QuietNinja it's a nightmare how many crisps and other random things have milk in them. I was dairy free for 18 months while breastfeeding her and found that I could only eat the boring plain ones.

DD1's 5th birthday led us to discover that strawberry flavouring has milk in it too. Thankfully before it went into the cake.

the day I discovered that Oreos were dairy and egg free was a happy one indeed

You could try Pinterest if you really want to see what you are missing Grin

DD1 had a "home cinema" party in March for her 7th birthday.

DVD, curtains shut, popcorn/sweets, then I did hotdogs and chips (to stay with cinema theme and also because it was easier than faffing with sandwiches etched.)

Then I face painted them while a second DVD was playing.

I had them for 4 hours and it whizzed by (there was lots of girly shrieking though....)

Oh, I also did pass the parcel.

LoveBeingIntheSun it was the dreaded Pinterest that set me off on this path in the first place! I don't have the time, money, patience or crafty skill to match most of what I see on there, but since starting the thread I've already added "reindeer cupcakes" and "snowflake biscuits" to my list.

I suspect there is no hope for me Grin

Perhaps you could do non-food snowmen then - But it depends on how much you want to spend. If you have a decent Hot Dollar or something nearby, they might have the craft polystyrene balls, and you could maybe get enough of those to "build your own Olaf" - but it really depends on how much they cost and how much you want to spend. You could make it part of their party bag though - they get to take their own Olaf home with them! Grin

1.5 hours sounds very short to fit all that in! Pinatas are a pain in the neck and extremely hard to get into if they are the whacking kind. Also, the whacking invariably means someone takes too much of a backswing and clocks someone else over the head. The pinatas with strings are MUCH better (but I'd still go for no pinata any day of the week).

I hate to do this to you, OP, but if you could stand it then these party bags would probably appeal... (She also witters on in the blog post about making marshmallow Olafs, but I am guessing marshmallows are no good for your DD?)

I always plan more than I can fit in.. things seem to take less time when it is a party. what about pass the parcel too and maybe have the video too incase they need calming down :)

Rather than party bags, can you find a Frozen sticker book or activity book that suits. I did that for DD - although in her case it was Winx Club (pre-Frozen) and they went down a treat. One individually wrapped book for each guest to take away - much less faff than filling party bags with junk that will end up in the bin anyway!

games
have a long list of games up your sleeve.

In my experience, sometimes they are happy to dance/sing along, and sometimes it starts to go pear shaped and then lots of structured games goes really well.

Nooooo!!! stealthsquiggle you can't do that to me, I thought I was doing really well planning blue party bags with a white snowflake attached! Olaf party bags... hmmm.... Grin

Amazingly some marshmallows are fine for DD (just lots of sugar and chemicals I don't want to think about) so marshmallow snowmen could be a great idea, and putting them in their party bags is a great idea too.

^writes more on list

Realises DH may think I've lost my mind altogether ^

Helpme that would be fab. But we're in NZ so a bit far away. Most of the Frozen merchandise doesn't seem to have reached here yet oddly.

If marshmallows are ok, then I would focus on the marshmallow snowmen and stick with the blue party bags tbh. Otherwise it is all a bit too Olaf-centric. My DC didn't particularly love Olaf anyway - DD liked Sven best Grin.

I am just in a stress about a Frozen party too.... DD1 is 7 at the end of the holidays. we have booked a church hall and this is the first party we have done like this.

2hrs, so far I have very little in mind. Hubby has announced that he won't be doing entertaining (shy) so we either pay someone to do it or I do it all.

I am on the verge of booking someone to entertain for half an hour which probably wouldn't be frozen themed but might be depending on costs.

otherwise I have pass the snowball (rounded balls of pass the parcel), musical statues, musical icebergs (have to stand on one of the bits of white paper on the floor or something like that, read it online - not really thought about it yet), pin the nose on Olaf and erm that is it.

I think I will be finding the cash to pay someone to be honest, I am not great with things like this.

party bags are sorted - I got a job lot of Rescue Princess books from the Book People so the girls will mostly get those and I found some others for the boys. works out less than £1 a child and will just wrap them in cheap wrapping paper.
