Is 7 too old for a 'traditional' party?

Hello
My son has told me he'd love to have the same party as last year where we hired a village hall and did party games and party food with his class. It was lovely. I was thinking that this year as he's older (oldest in his year) he may prefer inviting a few friends on a day trip somewhere or for cinema and a pizza but he is adamant he'd like another proper party. I'm happy either way but I'm a little concerned the other children in his year will think it's a bit babyish?? Is there a way I can make it a little bit more 'grown up' or shall I just go with the flow and let them be kids!! Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

No I don't think it's too old!

One of our parties we got balloon modeling balloons and a couple pumps off the net and we all did that, it's really good fun whatever the age and for older ones can take some time creativity and concentration of they want. Swords and hats are easy to make, instructions on you tube x

I mean we didn't only do that! But it's an idea appropriate for older, it think. And brilliant fun. The grown ups loved it too!

Not too old, kids still love this sort of thing. I think as parents we're often in a hurry to move them on to the next stage, so not to appear behind or babyish (guilty here) when really all the kids want to do is charge round, dance and play.

We had a village hall and kids entertainer for dd1's 7th last year. They loved it.

This is the second thread in about two minutes that I've talked about one of the dds parties on. Wierd. Grin

I don't think so, a traditional party is definitely good until 9th, maybe up to 11th depending on various factors.

The last one must've been a real hit - well done!

My niece had one like that for her 21st including pass the parcel Grin

Whenever I did those kind of parties, at home, they were always a great success. I would go for it

We had a traditional party for my Dds 7th Birthda in summer. We had proper party food with jelly and ice cream, played pass the parcel, balloon popping games, 3 legged races, pinata, a craft table and had a slippy water slide thingy
The kids loved it, they were exhausted, messy and happy when they left.
