Football mad DS will be 10yo the weekend of the World Cup final so we're looking at having a WC themed party.

Any ideas of how to make it World Cup rather than just football? I think we'll have about 5 days between the semis and the final to know who the teams are so can maybe use those teams colours/flags on the cake or whatever.

Also need an idea for something to take away (not party bag as such but a token gift eg. was thinking about a sports water bottle with some sweets in maybe?? Anyone seen any cheap World Cup merchandise?)

PS. I hate football so please help!

Food from the finalists countries could be a good idea (depending on the finalists I guess - what do they eat in Uruguay for example?! Smile)

From Googling it seems that all WC related merchandise seems to be 99% England stuff which is not what we want.

Do places like Poundland or anywhere have more general Brazil 2014 stuff?

It won't be Uruguay based on tonight's performance...

We've just had a football themed party for our 7 year old. When the guests arrived we put them into two teams - Brazil and Italy and gave them stickers to wear with the flag of that country. During the party we had some individual games and some team games and they won points for their team (they also won points for being the best behaved team!). The winning team got a prize at the end (we gave them panini world cup stickers). One of the games we played was spot the ball. I printed out a couple of pictures from football games and on one we put a cross and then hid it and the other we put on the wall. They all marked a spot on the one on the wall and the nearest to where we had put the cross on the other picture won. If you have a garden you could also print out cards with pictures of the players on and hide them around the garden. Each team then needs to find all of their players. They had hot dogs for lunch which had pictures of footballs on which they all thought were great - you can get them from aldi.

Hot dogs with pictures of footballs on?? Sounds interesting or was that a typo?

  • Have Brazilian themed food etc as well as the final teams

  • You can probably pick up bunting with world flags on from pound land or similiar

-World cup quiz with questions about the scores, history, players etc with a plastic trophy full of sweets for the winner so they get their own 'world cup'

  • Football themed games like beat the goalie and a mini football match

  • Have them come dressed as their favourite football player (wearing wigs, fake moustaches, kit etc)

  • Football shaped piñata

  • For party bags how about one of the really small footballs each - they're about £2-4 though so could get expensive, and a plastic medal

Footballs to take home? Samba drumming? Brazil nuts or buns containing them, allergies permitting?

Families - no you didn't kill it, I just went off to bed bored of the football on the TV!

Davidjrmum - wow I didn't imagine that. They'll love those if I can get to an Aldi before the party.

Hi, I was in my local party superstore and they literally had isles full of world cup country themed accessories, which was handy as I needed a cork hat to be Australia in a world cup party i was invited to. If I was you I would do what our party host did, everyone picked a country and we are all dressing up as a person from that country. Saves you spending the money.
