We're having a party. It will be DD2's 1st birthday, but we're inviting DD1's friends. (DD1 is 3). We have never done a party before.
What do I do??
How do I entertain 3 year olds?
Pass the parcel, musical bumps, pin the tail?
Would cookie/cupcake decorating be a disaster?
Food in boxes or help yourself?
I have no idea where to start!

Thank you.

Are you having it at home? If so, just having DD1's toys out will suffice.

If you choose to do games just play them. Don't have a winner. So musical bumps/statues is great as they can all do that and you just keep playing till you're fed up. Pass the parcel is only successful if you have lots of adult help. Everyone needs to unwrap a layer (preferably with a small prize inside) and at one great party all the children got a packet of Mikado sticks (chocolate treat things) once the winner had got their prize.

A buffet will do as the parents will help their children to choose.

At 3, you really don't need to provide much. I am recollecting my DD1s 3rd birthday and they just played with her toys and ate a simple sandwich lunch. They all enjoyed it.
