I want to do something really simple but still fun for ds's 3rd birthday party. since it is in August and quite hot still I thought we would have baby pool, sprinklers, etc. and maybe do a little Island/Hawaiian theme with leis and sunglasses. Any other ideas? I'm currently pregnant and tired most of the time so don't want to do anything elaborate but I hate for ds to feel like he didn't have a party IYKWIM so I do want it to be special for him.

I was doing a search on yahoo just for general party ideas for my DD and there seemed to be loads of hawaiian style things.

this is one site I found

\link{http://www.partydelights.co.uk/} - hope the link works, but if you type children's party into a search engine it comes up with loads of things.

I've even seen tropical beachy tableware like beach ball plates which I thought were quite fun.

Oooh we did this for dd's 3rd birthday last August.

I bought cheap cupcakes, iced them, put a cocktail umbrella on them and a jellybaby to have sunbathing jellybaby cakes. For the main cake I bought a plain iced white one, painted it blue with a little glace icing dyed blue, used some green shoelace type licourice things as sea weed and a few fizzy fish as a nemo type cake.

We had a couple of paddling pools, trikes, slide and swing etc out in the garden and I borrowed a bubble machine from a friend. I made a Nemo Pinata (its been used for 2 years now! as i use it as a pullina and attach strings, one of which opens a trap door for the sweets to fall out). I got leis as a party bag present (google them, I got some blue ones for the boys so they weren't too girls). I told the children to bring swimwear for the paddling pool and most of the boys came in cool hawaiian type shirts, a couple of the girls got cheap grass skirt things from Tesco.

It was a fab fab party - hope you enjoy it!
