What did you do for your 40th? Or what are you doing if it's this year?

I'm a bit stuffed because my 40th is half term week so everywhere in the world is booked (well, nice sc cottages seem to be) so I may have to do something different. I'm wondering about a combination of 2 nights in a hotel with dh and then a family party at our house too but it's all a bit vague atm.

So what did you do? Or what are you doing?

We live in the sticks so decided to have a weekend in London; I wanted a shared experience for all 4 of us not just a boozy party that I'd totally embarrass myself at!!!! We went by train and started on the London Eye. From there we walked to Covent Garden for lunch. Next, it was off to see The Lion King- WOW! After a little wander, we checked into our hotel and crashed out! In the morning we visited the Science and Natural History museums and arrived home, exhausted, on Sunday evening! It was a bri8lliant weekend that we still talk about now that I'm 41!

On his bday I am taking him to Le Manoir for the night

In September we are having a big joint party for all our friends at home. Beach party, hired a rum shack and getting blow up palm trees and making a beach etc. Lots of rum punch, reggae and ice lollies. Getting it catered and a cocktail barman!

We did bugger all as we had no money. My family all clubbed together though and bought me an iPod - fabulous little gadget. DH is planning all sorts for his 40th and I feel a bit peeved about that as we did nothing for mine - so am insisting he has an 81st to include my 41st birthday.

It's my 40th next month and we're having a party in the garden on the Sunday before (lunchtime/afternoon).

Thought about an evening do but all our friends have children and it would mean everyone getting babysitters so thought a garden party would be good (just praying it doesn't rain!)

We're going to get it catered so there's minimal work involved.

Due to lack of funds and lack of babysitters our plans for Paris fell through. So did our plans for Amsterdam. Then our plans to see a show and stay in a hotel in London.

So, after my shift (0530 - 0900) we took all four kids to London to go on the Eye. We queued in the heat, baby thrashing in my arms furiously while men searched our bags and sent us back because the champagne dh had planned was not allowed.

It took all my parenting stregth and a good deal of digging deep, fighting back tears in that queue as my 4 year old moaned and tried to escape, my dh fought his way back through the heaving crowd to stash the champers and the pushchair (which was also not allowed) and my 6 and 7 year olds asked questions non stop which in reality deserved my attentive answers but actually got none.

If you think that was a low point, you'd be wrong. The real low point came when, at dinner in a posh restaurant we'd booked when I noticed a pool of diarrh forming underneath the high chair of ds4.

That was my 40th birthday.

My advice - Don't, whatever you do, have any expectations.

Happy birthday WWW.
