wedding favours

I have offered to make the favours for my brothers wedding in sept - stupidly thinking it wasthe easy option.

I don't want to spoend looads of money but dont want cheap and nasty either.

any ideas of things i can make myself which will look great and not run of the mill stuff?

Buy a large piece of material of your choice - cut into circles (choose how big you want them) - add contents (for example: ladies - bath pearls, small soap, small candle, chocs/men - small keyring, sweets, small aftershave). Tie up in bow with thin, small length material or curling ribbon?

Use serrated edge scissors to cut material for effect. You could also use a plain colour material to put on the inside and use a see through, voile type, material on the outside to make it look really special

Sugared almonds, always a winner.

make sweets (something tray-based that you just cut into little squares)
put in cellophane bags (cheapest source I found here )
tie with ribbon
(could put them in boxes but they are more expensive to buy than bags and are a pain to assemble)

We didn't have favours at our wedding, except colouring books etc for the children. No-one minded or even noticed, so don't go mad thinking people will expect something fantastic. 'Keepsake' favours are one of my pet hates as they always cost a fortune, half the people leave them behind and the half that don't probably bin them.

Oooh yes. Make some homemade fudge.

Like Mrs Bader - cellophane is fab for things like this.

You can buy a huge roll in a florist wholesalers.

Put a few pieces of fudge in a square piece of cellophane, tie with curling ribbon (use different colours of curling ribbon for ladies and gents).

Off ebay you can buy favour boxes that came flatpacked in lots of different colours and shapes hearts, squares etc. Fold them up add some goodies and tie with ribbon will look fab. Thats what i've got for my wedding favours. You can be really smart and match it too there wedding colours

I was at Burghley House on Saturday. The ?Great Hall? was all done out ready for a wedding reception later that afternoon ? Each place setting had a little voile bag filled with something ? probably sugared almonds ? but what I thought was a really nice touch was that each one also had the persons name ( full name) in gold letters stuck on the bag ? actually I think it was embroidered but didn?t want to pick one up to check!! ?
They also had key-rings with a picture of the bride and groom in them ? thought they were a bit naff.

we went to a wedding recently where we all had 3 Green & Blacks chocolates tied up with thin ribbon like a little parcel - very sophisticated and very fair trade organic all that.

We had a spring wedding, so we gave mini eggs

You can get cookie cutters in wedding-themed shapes.

I twisted individual paper roses with fake heather and tied on a little printed tag with coordinated ribbon.

I used 2 bunches which were 1.99 in Au natral and a bunch of heather from the florist who let me have them at cost price. I printed the tags and stamped a design with gold ink. The most expensive bit was the ribbon, but even that cost very little.

little candles in pots are cute great if you get a cheap source of pots.

We had a triangle of ferrero rocher (sp?) in the middle of each table and each guest could help themselves. Not very pc these days as so many people have nut allergys.

My sis is getting wed in a couple of weeks, and she has voile netting in the shade of her b'maids and has mini packets love hearts for the guests, sweeties like footballs and lady birds for the kids and some bubbles with the bride and grooms names on them.
