Where can I buy a larger bed/3 quarter bed for my 3.6 year old

My DS has an Ikea bed with a metal frame etc.. but he's always banging himself on it.

Any recommendations on where I can buy a decent bed for him - maybe something more than a standard 3ft bed.

Ive looked at John Lewis, Dreams, NExt, M&S and all seem too small

I am sorry. Could you clarify what you are looking for.

Are you looking for a full sized single bed? Or something bigger? Or something bigger than a toddler bed but smaller than a single?

mumma2cjh · 10/09/2008 21:38

Def not a toddler bed but a larger single bed. Someone said that there are 3 quarter beds about around 4ft but I cant find anything decent - they are all far too grown up

So a standard sized single bed (3'6" in width) is too small?

I assume it is width that is a problem.

I think I have seen some mini-doubles - will have a look

we've got the Ikea Malm single bed which definitely seems bigger than a normal single bed as has a large frame, but a standard adult single mattress fits in it. DS1 has been init since 2,5 yrs and he has masses of room, friends, toys, brothers, us, all fit comfortably in. I think it is 4ft though not 3ft?

we have a lovely THuka "shorty" bed.

sorry, didn't read properly. you want something bigger than a standard single? but not as big as a double?

mumma2cjh · 10/09/2008 21:54

He has the Ikea Tromso which is 97cm wide - just looked at the Malm, it looks like it is 107cm wide - is this the one

There are a few here. They also do divan bases.

CoolYourJets · 10/09/2008 22:03

Same mattress size though. What about a divan? No outside bits to rattle off.

RandomIdiot · 10/09/2008 22:05

The malm isn't much bigger then.

107cm sounds like a standard single to me

Ok a single seems to be 3' (90cm). The Tromso and Malm are both standard singles as they both take a 90cm mattress.

The next size up I can find is 120cm wide (4'). If you google "small double bed" you find a number of options. Not sure if any will be suitable.

mumma2cjh · 10/09/2008 22:15

yes have seen these squiffy but they are too grown up for a 3 year old dont you think??? Also IVe checked out all the small doubles and again they are far too adult. May just have to change bed to a standard single with bits!

TBH the small doubles are not aimed at a child...so they are always going to seem grown up...especially for a boy (I think there are some girly ones there which could be accessorised for a princessy girl).

SquiffyHock · 10/09/2008 22:31

We bought DS a standard single with an underbed - he loves it when his cousin comes to stay.

MatBackFeck · 11/09/2008 00:08

yes that's the one. He thrashes around a lot and has never fallen out or hurt himself. I think the only thing bigger than this would be a double. If you have the room that is probably all you could do if he moves around a lot.

We've used this company before, cheap for branded items like thuka shorty or boston
