Let's pretend is rather wearing. But I do it if dd wants (which she does).
Hide ad seek is lovely. Usually around the house. Bit easy at the moment as they tend to hide in the same place each time.

I'm with cod on this one, it is shit, .

So is pelmanism when your kids are bickering, you never remember where anything is.

And tag with kids is pretty rubbish as well, if you played properly you would catch them immediately - end of game - thank fuck for that

Ds likes me to play hide and seek. In a 2-bed flat, it's hard. Very hard.

I don't think it'll too much longer before he realizes that I'm hiding behind one of only four doors.

I love hide and seek.

Very difficult in a 2-bed flat, when one room is out of bounds because of a sleeping baby, but it works the imagination! DD1 goes mental for it

God no I refuse to play hide and seek, I say "mummy doesn't do hide-and-seek darling, you'll have to play it with your friends..."

Luckily for me DS doesn't do pretend/fantasy play either so I'm spared that one too.

I've mastered playing hide and seek without moving from the sofa/laptop (but it only works with 2/3 yo).

You close your eyes while they hide, then open eyes and ignore the fact they are somewhere really obvious (again!) and say " oooh is he behind the curtains...no...under the chair...no ...."etc etc without moving from your seat . Its great!

I had to play it once not only with ds but with his imaginary friend Von

we stood behind the door for about 10 minutes

Von was a shit seeker

I like playing hide & seek with mine. We are in a 3-bed flat but still seem to find enough places (e.g. under the duvet).

I'd love to play hide and seek with my kids, but short of throwing a sheet over myself and hoping they think I'm the sofa, I'm a bit short on hidey-holes

Let's pretend, well, today I pretended I had a needle and thread and sewed up ds2's mouth and he had to keep his lips closed tight until I used the (pretend) scissors to cut the stitches.

I was waiting in the car for dh with him and he wouldn't stop blowing that damn whistle.....

Let's pretend can be turned to our advantage.

DD's imaginary friend is Maka Pakka.

notnowbernard -I dispute the fact that you say you can't play it in a 2 bed flat. DS and DD once played hide and seek for 1 hour in a twin bedroom in a caravan!! The room was smaller than our utility room FFS!

Hide and seek with my 3yo is utterly hilarious. She thinks that if she can't see me, I can't see her. She once hid behind a log in the park - the only bit of her you couldn't see was her face

god I love hide and seek at home - I hid in the bath once and terrified the lives out of them. It's fab - loads of places you can hide that you'd never think of - I'm often to be found under the dining room table...

I quite like hide and seek, but can't do the role playing "You be Darth and I'll be Luke" stuff. Agree with Cod - I'm just too darn old.
I also HATE most kids' boardgames but have recently worked out how to get rid of the more irritating ones. Our kitten crapped in The Game of Life (left under a chair with the lid off) and so I binned it with a song in my heart. All I have to do now is persuade the kitten to poo in Hungry Hippos.

I hate hungry hippo...

Quite like playing with ds1's star wars figures - I always embarass him by making Padme and Han kiss, which is quite wrong as technically she's his mother-in-law to be...

notnowbernard · 24/10/2007 20:42

Ha Ha! It's difficult, but yes, very do-able!

I get strangely competitive with it... can relate to the hiding in the bath and freaking dd out! She is always amazed by my ever-extending repetoire of hiding places...

Oooooooooh "let's pretend" .. aaaaargh!

Me: shall we go in the garden?
DD1: Yeah, p'tend you're a mummy, yeah? and I'm a teenager, yeah? and you're coming to visit me in my garden, yeah? and blah, blah, blah, blah..."
Me: CAN'T WE JUST GO IN THE REAL GARDEN AND HAVE FUN WITHOUT HAVING TO PRETEND WE ARE SOMEWHERE ELSE. AND STOP SAYING "YEAH?" ALL THE TIME, YOU SOUND DERANGED.

Don't even get me started on "can we play doctors mummy".
