DD3 started talking around 12-14m ish (could have been earlier).

Her first recognisable words were

"gone" (i.e. I need more food)
"more" (i.e. I need more food/give me what you are eating)
"duck" (unrelated to food)

dd is 2 and says single words "more" "NO" "Mine" "goaway" and is beginning to say things like "daddy sad?" (she is nasty to dh on a regular basis) and somtimes says "no! Mine! Go away!" in a sentence but thats about it.

can you tell shes a stroppy madam

She didnt say much at all until about 18 months when she started syaing the names of things

Here first proper word was shoes at about 12 months and it was about the only thing she said for ages

DS is 15 months - didn't really start saying anything recognisable until about 2 months ago when he suddenly came out with 'quack quack' whilst pointing at a duck.

Can now also say 'nana' (as in banana) and words (that probably only we would recognise) for again, clock, crab , mama and something that sounds like 'meh' which we think might be more - oh and he also says 'uh oh' when he drops something.

About 10m with things like mamma, dadda, hiya, ta, nana and ba (bath), but at 19m (now) he's really come on and is combining words, trying new things every day and knows things I didn't know he knew.

B4 18 months I think, he said 'mumma' 'brum' (for cars) adn 'duck'.

Couldn't say 'dada' for quite a while longer.

He didn't really take off till he was 2 and then it came in fits and starts (i.e. he was behind and then he'd come on suddenly repeatedly).

Now 3 he talks well for his age.

Its been great hearing all the things your little ones said for their first words. DD likes to say purple. Very strange!!

DS1 said "ubble" for bubble at 10mo, then some other things as he got older [forgets]

DS2 said "apple", repeatedly, since about birth, it seems (although probably more like 12mo!). They're his very favourite things.

ceebeegeebies · 24/10/2007 21:09

Lol Hunker - I guess that is why DS can say nana then as bananas are his favourite things in the whole world!

It's funny, DS said a few words at 12 months (all related to food) and then he stopped talking for a few months. I though that it would be a constent progress, but it wasn't. Now he is almost 2 and can't stop babbling, most of it are recognisable words but they don't form sentences. He does say things like 'more cheese please mummy', but he can't say granma which we have been repeating to him forever. He can say Makka Pakka and Upsy Daisy, and Igle Piggle, which I think is very funny!

dd now says "bye bye bubbles" when we pull the plug at bath time

and her latest new and shiny word is bitch courtesy of my mother although it is pronounced "Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch!" and she says "nanny beeeeeeetch" which pleases dh

DS started to say 'Dad' and 'Hiya' first, at around 7mths.

It's only recently that he equated words with the right things- he's 16mths and can say:

Dad/Daddy
Mam
Dog
Cat
Bye Bye
Shoes
Hiya
Baby
His childminders name
and he said 'cheese' last night

PregnantGrrrl · 26/10/2007 07:49

and banana, although he says 'nananananana'

Unisarah - ds was signing 'milk' at 8 months too. Even when it's not time for a feed. SO I try to fob him off with water

bunny hunny- boy only bothered to sign for milk when I wasn't there for several hours (he was with his dad( also a BSL user)) I was still more of less demand feeding at the time. he only uses milk sign for breast feed, anything else is drink. I think tractor or maybe biscuit is his fav sign( and things) but it doesn;t always get results, nor does please/thanks which he uses very enthusisicly.
