Ok, I never expected this - ds2 (baby) SHOUTS all the time!!!

He is such a sweet, good, laid back baby, and has hardly ever really cried - a few times maybe in his four months.
Thought I was onto a winner with that, but suddenly he has started to shout, really loudly, I mean my ears hurt!!
He does it when he is biting something (teething I guess?) and also when bored and wanting to be picked up. Which is actually rather a lot at the moment.

I don't mind picking him up but the noise is awful, he will just sit there (or lie there) shouting merry hell, seemingly quite happy, and I don't know why.

Is he just testing vocal skills? Does anyone else's do this? I need cotton wool in my ears.

(he also sings, quietly, in tune to his mobile which is much nicer!)

Sorry no idea, but you made me smile.

Thankyou Bree. I am quietly accepting that we have a weird one here

Mine did that, but only in restaurants.
The phase passed.

Impressed at the singing in tune! Obviously has inherited your musical ability.

Hee hee, well one of them had to, Ds1 is amazingly unmusical, it's hilarious!

I have taped it, it's lovely (the singing not the yelling)

DD did it aged 5 months, in church, at a funeral! Needless to say I took her out, only to discover that the accoustics in the vestibule were even better!

She actually cheered everyone up on what was an awfully sad day.

LOL

DS did this.

From very early on - about 3 weeks. He would lie there waving his arms about going 'aaaah! aaaaaaaaaaaaah! aah!' for ages. I used to call it his 'address to the nation' because it sounded as if he was expounding at great volume, and very imperiously.

Then when he went to nursery (at 4m, bad mummy) he would shout very loudly at the other babies. His diary for the day would read 'shouting at X', 'shouting at y', shouting at z'.

yes. My DS2 does this. Such a lovely laid back baby, just like yours, but takes great delight in yelling his head off. He's been doing this for months. I often ask him "what's up?" (like he's going to answer me at 8 months )and he just smiles at me and laughs his head off!!

What did yer expect?

Could the shouting be his way of telling you he wants something to sing along to? ie is he quiet whenever it's on and not the rest of the time?

My ds did this from early on and is still shouting age 5 and a half years - though more coherently now!

For the noisiest child I know he has a really low tolerance level for loud noise and freaks out at fireworks/drums etc ...

Yep, DD is a shouter, especially when she is hungry, it's like she is telling you off!

Love the 'shouting at everyone in a cafe whilst trying to bf subtly, drawing attention to naked waving nipple' one too.

She was doing it repeatedly in the middle of the damn night last night too

Mine blows really loud, really juicy raspberries.

Doesn't half tickle when she's feeding.

your baby sounds really lovely - exuberant and happy! Maybe he is just trying out the vocal chords. Try making sure that the bckground noise is at a minimum, so he doesn't need to shout over it. Also get his hearing checked?

My DS did this alot - especially round the supermarket. Gave the old dears a bit of a smile though!

DS shouts a LOT, esp in the supermarket. They recognise him now

Oh god, I hadn't thought about hearing.

Would second suggestion re hearing check. We had similar with my DS when he was 4, he did have significant hearing loss (fixed by having his adenoids out and grommets).Best to rule that out first.

DD went through a phase of doing this. I think she had just discovered she could shout so did it all the time! She grew out of it fairly quickly though so hope yours does too.
