Advice please! DS 2.4. DC2 due start Jan. Shall I move DS into a bed before or after the baby arrives?

We plan to start potty training him mid November (after returning from a holiday) and then move him into a bed sometime in December. Am I mad?

complicating factor is that I have a major pregnancy complication which means that I may have to spend some of December in hospital.

Just feel rather overwhelmed by it all.........

I would say leave it. If he is happy there (not climbing out, still fits and is sleeping), why give yourself the stress at this stage? He might just want to go back in the cot when he sees the baby in it. I would wait until he is that bit older and then make a big show of "big boys sleep in beds" stuff. Give him something special - new bed etc, once things have settled down with the baby. Tbh, same with potty training. They often take a step back once the baby is born and you don't need the grief.

Do what is easiest and best for you. If mummy is away and he has too many changes at once, it doesn't sound like an easy recipe. Sorry to hear about your complication, hope things go well for you.

have not read all posts but i would defo do it before baby's arrival. reason being that any changes made after dc's appearance can be 'blamed' on dc. when ds was born we stopped various things with dd well in advance so the changes took place with no connection to ds's iyswim. for example; i often took baths with dd but stopped at 3mths pg without mentioning that it was because it would be diff once ds had arrived etc. I tried not to say anything like "we can't because of baby" type of stuff. Make it exciting/rewarding etc. hth and congratulations!
