Do you/Have you ever fallen asleep while looking after your DS/DD/DC?

Just wondering, DH came in and blasted me for having fallen asleep on the sofa earlier (everywhere safe and toddler-proof) and I told and friend who said she naps quite alot! DO you ever have a quickie nap?

I did fall asleep a few days ago!

Thank heavens for MIL texting me or ds would have been half way down the lane before I woke up! I had just fell asleep & not thought about locking the backdoor!

As it was, I found him at the top of the yard on his tractor

Several times while pregnant with ds2 - I used to try to keep ds1 on my lap with books, small cars and beebies though.

I used to have an afternoon nap when they were little and but I was fortunate that they always seemed to fall asleep with me.

Several times a week usually in the afternoon. Always seems hours but is only about 15mins or so.
As long as everything is safe - to be honest you won't be in a deep sleep so if they cry you will wake up start away - I know I do.

yes - the other day DD was occupied with playdough so i lay down and drifted off. Usually I tell them I'm tired and need to close my eyes for a bit - then they hassle me till I wake up.

yes, especially when pg with DC2. Now they are 5 and 7, if I am particularly exhausted or feeling rough I will ocasionally go and lie down on my bed, leaving them downstairs to play

DH is always doing this. I don't fall asleep accidentally whilst looking after them, but I have purposely told DS1 to play in his room so I can sleep for a bit longer (in the morning). Our upstairs is very toddlerproof, so I don't worry about doing this, and I sleep very lightly.

all the time, I have Narcolepsy so no choice really, but then I am a single parent so no one to moan at me

there's a lovely photo that my dh took of me and both dds asleep on the sofa watching tv when he got in from work! I napped with them - it's relatively safe like that - you tend to wake when they stir.

Yes - when DS" gets up ridiculously early i gate us both in the living room with cbeebies on and loats of toys and i nap on the sofa.

Totally safe and he usually crawls all over me waking me up within 10 minutes anyway!

I go to sleep before the teenagers every day but I suppose that doesn't count. I've certainly put an awake child in a cot before now and gone to sleep but where they can't get out and are supposed to be having a nap. In a sense every single night you go to sleep on duty, don't you?

yes I fall asleep most afternoons once DD is asleep in his cot and DD downstairs playing quietly. I am up v early to go to work 3 days a week (which is a 12 hour day all in) so on my days off I need to catch up ;)

Yes, did so all the time when pregnant with no. 2. Cbeebies on, childproofed room, quick 20min power nap. You sleep pretty lightly anyway that if anything was wrong you'd be alert fairly quickly (imo), and even while in a dozy state can still hear the TV and toddler.

Yes. DD in cot. DS watching Peppa pig. Perfect opportunity to snuggle up with him on the sofa and drift off. Funny dreams about puddles though.

I've climbed into the playpen with DS a few times and fallen asleep while he played.

Yes, if I feel the need I will put DD down for a nap and put a DVD on for DS and go to bed for half an hour. He comes and wakes me with a kiss when the DVD finishes!

I often doze off while reading to them. They love books and I cannot sit on a sofa for more than 20 minutes without dozing off.

Yes, used to nap when ds napped. Now that he doesn't, if I have a bad night, like last night, will put a fairly benign DVD on for ds either in the morning, or after lunch. He wears headphones, and I sleep on the sofa next to him.

Two weeks ago though, I had a strange day in that I dozed off TWICE during the day, pretty much uncontrollably , whilst in the middle of bed games (bed = a plane/mousehole/flat, etc). After the second nod-off, ds (3.4) must have played for half-an-hour before pulling a chair up to the worktop, getting a glass out, and pouring me some smoothie from the fridge, which he brought down to me [melted heart emoticon]. What a sweetie. A lovely gesture, though not something I want to repeat - me nodding off like that, that is. The smoothie treatment - will definitely have that again.

I have a five week old baby. When I was pregnant and not sleeping well at night I used to find it really difficult to keep my eyes open in the afternoon sometimes, so would often find myself drifting off while my son happily played and watched TV. Wouldn't be in a deep sleep, but enough to give me a bit more energy.
I now try to sleep while my son has his lunchtime nap if my daughter is asleep at the same time.

i do it with ds who is 15 months but always when he is in his cot napping himself. i think i would leave it until he was at least 2 before i could do it whilst he was playing.

My DP was meant to be watching our DD in the living room the other night, he fell asleep and she got behind the tv and unplugged it. She's only 13 mo so god knows how she managed it.

Luckily, she didn't electrocute herself, but that'll teach me for leaving her to go on mumsnet
