after she offered to collect dd1

it just hit me though that she is a total stranger

That is a really nice gesture if she knows you are new to the area, take her up on it and stay for a cuppa.

Maybe next time you see her, suggest that you all go for a picnic after school on Friday. That way you'll be able to get to know her and DD a little better.

We have recently moved to a new area and found it quite alien when people were so friendly and inviting us to lots of things going on in the community. Sad isnt really it but it takes a little bit of getting used to and dont just want to let your littles one go and play at a complete strangers house.
