Who is it that has a "punchy" young DS? How do you handle it?

DS has started to punch me, not DD or DH, just me

I won't hit him back

i tell him I'm V cross etc and hurt but he'll do it again the next day

OK - I have a biter. He has bitten since he was 8 months and is now 3 years 8 months and is just growing out of it. Everyone said it was a phase - it is a phase.

Try role-modelling what you like: cuddles, kisses, raspberries. Try distraction - works much better than getting cross with my DS. Try preventing it happening - DS2 is far more likely to bite if hungry or tired.

How old is your DS? Could it be those hormones? How about giving him something he can legitimately beat up? What are his triggers?

Good luck - keeping calm certainly helps here - not that I always manage to do that .

So, frustration, exacerbated by hunger? He is very little, so really don't know if consequences e.g. naughty step, would work or how you feel about that. Personally, can see the argument both ways about time out.

How about something instant to start the day - for example a banana just to cut you slack - and then, reinforce good behaviour, you can watch "x", do "y" now because you are playing so nicely/helping me tidy up (I like help!).

Keep bumping for the different times - what's great about MN is that someone will come along and give you a brilliant idea that hasn't occurred to you and when it works, life gets simpler.

ds is similar, we find giving fruit 1st thing and lunch by 1230 lastest. He has one warning then a favourite toy gets taken away andis returned at the end of the day if he has been kind. Also tiredness definately makes it worse I try to make sure he has 11 hours at night (he was 3 in April)Good Luck
