What time does/did your 3year old go to sleep?

Basically, that's it. Ds's bedtime is a nightmare, and we're wondering if it is because he is going to be too early (or late).

Ds goes to bed at 8pm, and generally has a hours sleep during the day.

Thanks

My ds who was 3 in April goes to bed about 7.30-8 and wakes about 7am. He has recently dropped his day time nap though hes usualy in a s**t mood by 3pm because hes tired

My ds1 who is 3.8 goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm because he's so tired and never naps during the day. He gets up between 5 and 6am every day regardless of when he goes to bed so if we let him stay up later then he still gets up early and is then knackered all day long.

Bath, milk, story, bed! He used to go to be really happily, but for the past three weeks, he's just not interested in any of it. He doesn't want his milk, as he knows bed is on the way!

Thanks Yorkiegirl,
I may try to get ds to drop the nap, but he's in such a bad mood, he;s too overworked by bed.

DD1 is 3 on 24th July and goes to be about 7.15-7.30pm, is up anytime between 6am and 7am and usually has 45mins nap - although not every day. (prob naps 4/7 days)

ds1 3.6 (Dec 03) goes to sleep between 6.45 - 7.15pm and wakes 7 - 7.30am. NO daytime nap. If he naps for 10 minutes then it can put bedtime back about 2 hours NIGHTMARE.

Do you put him to bed every night or does your dp/dh do it at all?

Report
JARM · 30/06/2007 20:54

I would try and cut the nap a little - we wake DD1 after 45 mins because we know she would be running around at 9pm otherwise.

She actually now ASKS to go to bed, and thats only since reducing her afternoon nap.

I find its pre-school days where she is hit and miss with naps - will either flake out at 3.35pm or will keep going and be crying to go to bed at 6.30pm - but that is FAR too early, I do NOT want to be woken at 5am with a hyper toddler!

We both put him to bed, last week he was making himself sick to br brought back down (clean him up etc), this week he is taken his nappy off and weeing on himself, again bringing him down to clean him.

This should have been in sleep topic really!

Going to try no naps now.

I think it sounds like he is getting ready to drop the nap - I would either try limiting it to 30 mins or drop it altogether on some days.
ds2 is 3.6 and goes to bed between 7 and 7.30, usually getting up some time between 6 and 6.30. he hasn't had a daytime nap for well over a year.

JARM, you have described my ds perfectly! When he's in playgroup, he falls asleep about half three-ish, or he's too tied to go to sleep at 7 or 8 (if that makes any sense!)

That was going to be my next question. Is he still in nappies? Oh erm......

X-posted with Elliott,
Going to try no more naps for ds, and see how he goes

You may well need to get him to bed extra early when you drop the nap. When we stopped ds2's nap, he was falling asleep over his tea... he still does get tired during the day but if he naps, he is up even earlier...

gingeme · 30/06/2007 21:00

My ds does that elliot mind you hes only been dropping his naps for about two weeks.

That's a problem we have. When he doesn't have a nap, he is often want bed at 6pm, and that's too early!!

IT may not be - at least until he gets used to it. then you can push the bedtime back more towards 7pm.

My ds has pre-school but that makes no difference to how tired he is. He just gets up at the same time every day no matter what, sometimes bedtime has been 8 as we've been out and he's still up at 5. So he gets to bed earlier for his sake. He sometimes takes himself up to bed as he's so tired as well. I'd love having him up later as I enjoy my children but it's not fair on him.

dd was 3 in may. bedtime is usually at 8, she's asleep by 8.30. she usually sleeps for 12 hrs, and occasionally has a daytime nap (usually at nursery, peer pressure [grin[)

7pm if he doesn't fall asleep on the school run.

If he does have a little snooze in the car, he goes up around 7.30pm. He reads or plays in bed for a bit then falls asleep around 8pm.

Thanks for all the great advice.

Going to try no nap, or at least cutting it right down.

DS still awake though!
