ds standing up to wee-advice needed

hi
i have a bit of a daft question! my ds is 2 and now stands up to do a wee. thing is when he's finished he drips for ages, usually down his leg, on his underwear etc. i usually dab him with a bit of tissue to stop this but my husband thinks i'm going to have him weird, thinking he has to wipe his willy everytime he has a wee.
does anyone else do this or is it strange???

sorry i know it sounds really stupid

Liisa, my dh does this and has taught ds to do the same.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. I wipe myself, why shouldn't men?!

Boys should shake, not wipe, right ? Ds still sits down, but we have a 'routine' - tuck him in, .... shake, stand up, pants up etc.
Thats the beauty of boys, is that they don't need to wipe ?

DS1 sits to wee - he's 2.3, sometimes I dab a bit of tissue on his willy if there is still a dribble of wee.

you've got to shake

also, after the main stream of wee, there's often a little squirt about a second or so later so just make him stand a bit longer, wait for the squirt, then shake and he'll be fine

If they don't wipe they drip

shaking just sprays it around

this has been the subject of many a bitter word chez F&Z

my opinion is that he can choose not to wipe when he does his own laundry

dh and ds have different ideas

nah, they shake over the loo

boys don't wipe

Shaking is risky at best

a 4 year old doesn't know how to shake accurately

well mine doesn't

but they learn . Their shaking technique improves over time.

Besides, once he starts school, he'll get a huge urinal thing to shake over!

my ds(almost 6) wipes, dh thought it was weird when I first started doing it but I can't stand dribbles on underwear/trousers, surely they should have a choice whether to wipe or shake

Boys SHOULDN'T wipe.

Report
foxinsocks · 27/05/2007 16:45

yes, but most of you are saying you wipe cos you don't like the dribbles (not them)

once they get to school, they'll just do what everyone else does and shake

yes or get teased as girlies

Wiping? Jezz, I'm lucky if they remember to put the seat up first [grin}

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 16:52

yes I base everything I do with my ds on whether or not it will cause him to get teased

have just been questioning ds about his toilet habits at school, can't get teased at his school cos they have separate cubicles not urinals, still don't see a problem with wiping though, he also said if there is no paper he shakes

imo setting your kdi up to ridicule( shcool in lederhosen for eg) is tantamount to abuse.

So... girls must always wipe, but boys must never wipe?

Dare one ask why?
