Sick of the chicken pox

OMG I am so so fed up of DS1 having chicken pox.

So I have come here for a moan.

DS1 is 2 and a half and we are on day3 of the pox. He is covered from head to toe, itchy and miserable. He has turned into mega-terrible-two. Nothing is right. I am wrong about everything. He won't let me do ANYTHING to help his itching. Refuses calamine, cool baths (with oaty stocking in) even playing outside with the hose in a desperate attempt to cool him off a bit and so make the itchiness less. He just wanders about sobbing about everything at the slightest provocation. This morning I was handling things quite well "oh you poor thing, you are so poorly" etc etc. Now I am more, hair tearing out, lunatic mother "WHAT NOW?!"

Which I know makes me pure evil.

This is all not helped by having DS2 age 10 weeks, wanting to feed constantly which is then met by DS1 sobbing "cuddle, want cuddle" which is difficult to say no to because he is poorly sick.

Currently he is sobbing that he can't find Woody. Everything I put on TV leads to more sobbing when it finishes "want more Dora/peppa/shaun the sheep" etc etc.

And trust DH to be on a course this week so he won't be home til AFTER bedtime...!

So - pass the crap mother award please. I deserve it.

K

ps how do i answer the question "me not like spots - take spots away, mummy?"

Have struck gold - an ice lolly seems to be providing some happiness. Despite it dripping onto the carpet. But it has stopped the constant whine and diverted attention away from the scratching!!

Kateyp, my 2 1/2 DS1 also has chicken pox. We are on day 5 but have experienced all you are going through. DS1 is getting better less whingey but now DS2 is teething. Needless to say I'm tired and getting ratty.

I have just had the request for chocolate. Not a problem. Have presented DS1 with chocolate buttons.

"THAT'S NOT THE RIGHT CHOCOLATE!"

Jesus-H-christ-on-a-bike.

Wish we had some horses near by...may well feed DS1 to them...!!

I really sympathise, my dd had it a couple of months ago and 2 weeks later ds got it, he's 2 and walked around the house just sobbing. Once he seemed a little better and the spots had scabbed up I carried on as normal although I got a lot of looks, he was very spotty.
How about putting everyone in the car for a drive?
I know distraction is hard to provide when you yourself need distraction from the crying and whinging.
lots of luck

Poor little thing.

Have you tried Piriton liquid. It dampends down the itching and makes them drowsy. DD had the pox about 2 months ago and it was a godsend. One spoonful will give hours of relief...

Can't give you any more advice as my DD is that annoying when she doesn't have chicken pox! We thought she might be going down with it and checked our medical book which said she may be "fretful and demanding".

As DH said, how could you tell...

Yep - dosed up on the piriton. Now discovered 2 spots between his toes which "hurt" bless him.

We have baked biscuits. Pleasingly the ones he likes to make are tasty cinnamony/oaty things that only I actually like to eat...so that will do wonders for the post-baby diet! He has washed up (again something he likes to do - not actually acheiving cleanliness but lots of splashing).

DS2 begun on the marathon feed (hence back on the t'internet) and DS1 unhappy that he can't frighten the spots away (he is roaring at his toes).

Oh - and did I mention that the dog has started puking? Do dogs get chicken pox?!

Isn't is a small world, my 2 1/2 dd has the pox too! Hers are worst in the nappy area, and she seems to be sore rather than itchy, so calpol and calprofen are helping a lot. We're using calamine cream rather than lotion, which is much easier and also more effective. I'm lucky though, that she's a girly girl who loves putting on any kind of cream!

Hello!
He is much better this morning - day 5. Back to normal levels of toddler grumpitude!!

Phraedd - if your lo's eyes are still sore this morning it may be worth seeing your GP - sometimes need drops if get chicken pox in the eyes as it can scar the front of them.

All better now?

2yr old now better but now 11 week old has it
He shouldn't have got it - he should have my immunity and be getting some help from bfing. Although I guess he isn't as bad (yet) as his big brother.

Pass the calamine.
