Trying to sort this, nightmare!!!! Do other people have a problem with being on a waiting list you may never get to the top of??? Anyway I digress, whilst getting stressed out suddenly thought am I supposed to be looking for anything in particularly or are all lessons pretty similar and do the job eventually. Not after 1to1 thinking maybe too intense to start with just small groups. I'm wondering if there are any qualifications I should be looking for. Any advice would be welcome.

we just do the ones at the local public baths - at this age, think it's not rocket science

Most pools do something called "Ducklings" for the under 5's. Ds has lessons where the Instructor is in the water with him. However when I first looked around some asked for the parent to get in with the child which wasn't what I wanted really

My 3 year old DS started lessons this term at local leisure centre. This is best term to get a place in pre school groups as all 4 year olds at school started doing full days in Jan so suddenly lots of free places in swimming groups. He is in a group of 6, teacher in the watre with them, he loves it and is making good progress.

I just signed up ds when he turned 3 - no waiting list or anything - our pool does lessons all week and we had loads of classes to choose from. He's taught in a tiny group - only two of them at the moment, but no class is bigger than six. Class is taken by the pool staff who seem very very competent at teaching and are excellent with the kids too. Ds has a great time (but plays his teacher up no end - worried about how school's going to go ).

milamae - my three year old has just started at local pool and due to some incompetence at the admin end, she has ended up with 1 to 1 lessons at the cost of group ones - LOL - which is great as she is a bit nervous. Anyway I digress, they normally let you watch and you work out pretty quickly whether the instructor is any good. My dd1's teacher is great and really knows how to handle her anxiety, she has come along in leaps and bounds!
