TV / DVD watching - what is an acceptable amount for a 2 yr old?

My dd (21 months) has very recently discovered TV, specifically the movie Monsters Inc. which she adores and asks to watch over and over again. She sits glued to it then asks for it again once it's over.
She'd watch it all day if I let her. She's not very interested in kids TV, she likes Balamory and Teletubbies but otherwise has no real interest but "Monsters" is sometimes the first thing she says in the morning when she wakes up! I do let her watch it once or twice a day (lets me get stuff done!) but there are often tears when I tell her the monsters are asleep or they've gone home or something.
She's very bright, she can count to 14 and recognise and read most letters in the alphabet and her speech is very good so I'm not too concerned it's holding her back but she used to be very interested in books but since she discovered Monsters Inc she's less enthusiastic.
Anyone have any advice about this?????

if you don't think it is holding her back then don't worry.

Mine watched anything from no telly to four hours - it really varied.

as long as it is not stopping her from exploring other things.

My 24mth twins watch a varying amount, but they're in to lots of things so idon't 'worry. she sounds very very advanced from my limited experience of 2 yr olds and i did read that most 2 yr olds could be described as obsessive compulsive!
it's nice to feel like you're the \one in charge though so i'd set aside a special time to watch it at the same time every day and distract at other times.

my dd whose 2 3/4 likes watching DVD's. She doesnt like TV but wants DVD's on all the time. Most of the time she doesnt even watch it but goes off and plays.

I dont see it doing any harm as long as you make sure shes not watching tv all day. We try to keep busy out and about and then when we come in shell have a dvd on and a lay down.
BTW shell soon get fed up with monsters and find other films so at least youll get a change and the constant 'why' will start and youll be forever answering rediculas questions about Sully and Mike.
