Stephen Biddulph is the most well known in this I think. He's published 'How to raise boys' and others.

Well, not really a "how to" book but I can highly recommend Jenni Murray's That's My Boy. It's more about her relationship with her sons than a parenting manual per se but it's got some interesting stuff in it about pressures to conform to society's ideals of 'masulinity'.

I really didn't like the Biddulph book. Have a look at this thread for some more suggestions.

It's really good, SP (just noticed I missed the c out of masculinity).

I really like Jenni Murray's That's my boy! Excellent imo.

Oh just realised Moo already said it, but I agree, completely.

We agreed on the thread I've linked to too (which, I've just realised has only one other suggestion on it - from spidermama).

I have a book called

Why Boys Are Different: And How to Bring Out the Best in Them (Hamlyn Health & Well Being S.) (Paperback)
by Bonnie Macmillan (Author)

and it has been really interesting to read about the different ways in which gender affects development, it touches on some nature/nurture discussions, and just made me think a bit more deeply about what was important when raising a son. (I grew up with only sisters, so my interaction with boys was less regular than if I'd had a male sibling).

thanks for your kind offer Lulumama - i am notoriously bad at returning borrowed books so will buy my own copy i think! Thanks for your recommendations ladies, think i'll try Steve Bidulph and maybe Jenni Murray too as starters...!

I really enjoyed the Steve Biddulph book, although ds is only 9 months old so haven't been able to put much into practice yet.
