My ds has been constipated for over a week. I had him at the doctors and he was prescribed lactulose, but he's still straining and is now crying when he strains.
Ive got docs appointment for monday but was wondering what i can do in the meantime.
He has plenty veg and has been having diluted fresh orange.
Any more suggestions??

I seem to remember reading that very dark chocolate is good for constipation? Though our DS doesn't like the stuff, too bitter I guess.

try dried apricots....he can hold and nibble them, might need to soak them first..or cook for 10 mins and puree!

lots of water / fresh Oj,

prunes - dried

you can mix copped prunes with oata bix or weatabix and his usual milk

hot bath, then lay him on his back, massage his tummy (use oil, olive oil if you have to), start from the bottom on his left side, work up go across and down again towards goingn on his left side.

bring his legs up to his tummy, use a bit of oil on your finger and just rub round his anus to stimulate it.

Then hold him, put his back to your tummy, hold him under his knees so you get him in squatting position.

avoid carrots, apples, potato, banana and egg

lay him on his back and work his legs round, like you are making him ride a pretend bike as well.

My ds (who is almost 9 now) used to suffer with constipation. I used to boil up a bag of dried fruit compote (from health food shops, it contains all sorts of dried fruit) with some water & apple juice, blitz it in the food processor and freeze in ice cube trays, add 2-3 defrosted cubes to his breakfast
