Unusal stair gate needed...any ideas??

The wall on my stairs doesn't start until the third step and i'm a bit concerned that my daughther will hurt herself if she ventures up these steps!! I have been trying to find a stair gate that will go at right angles, but I can only find a play pen that I can convert into a stairgate, but it's going to cost me £70!!! Don't really want to spend that much....any ideas anyone??

Not sure if this would work for you, but how about a kiddyguard one? WE have one because our banistera are so weak that a pressure gate was breaking the whole staircase! Its like a roller blind, and ours is set at a slight angle as thatwas the only way we could find solid bits of wall etcto attach it. They're about £55 new but we got ours secongd hand for £12.95. Try ebay.

Should have said also, they extend very wide, so perhaps you could go wall to wall with it to avoid that whole area of stairs?

Some books recommend putting your stairgate a few steps up, so your child can play on the bottom few steps, and learn how to deal with stairs. Your child is unlikely to hurt herself falling down three steps, anyway, unless there are big knives at the bottom ...

(Trust me, both my kids have fallen down half a flight at a go, and been fine. We didn't really bother with our stairgates for DS2.)

Agree with NQC, three steps isn't a great threat and will help get her used to steps and how much of a shock it can be if she tumbles and gets a fright.

And always worth a look on Ebay,in the free ads etc. Ask around, someone may know of someone who has one to get rid of.
