Hi All,
well rumour here goes around that Ian Huntleys involved misses has settled in an estate in this town. She was housed, got a Job at Morrisons apparently and has had her facial features altered via surgery and whatever else and obviously her id changed.....really don't know how I feel about this! I don't know if she has learned from the past...I don't kow if she fels remorse/feelse bad about her involvement, I don't know what she is planning in her life or how perceptive she is NOT to pick the wrong guy again....so, must say, am not happy for her to be here, but feel in a way horrid about this, because I usually say give people the benefit of the doubt...but then, where Kids are involved...ar we right to do so...should we trust the authoritys....
Like I said, it's all rumours, and that may well be all that it is...but of course it has put my emotions into turmoil!
Should we protest about this? Or should we give her the right for aninomity as ong as she isn't part of any dodgy business again?

Several innocent women have been targeted and assaulted by people who believed they were Maxine Carr.

I would NOT jump to conclusions.

It just shows how many gullible people there are, doesn't it? I wonder which poor woman is going to find her windows smashed? (Let's hope that's all that happens)

You mean Maxine Carr or the woman who has his child?

Report
iPodthereforiPoor · 10/11/2006 23:19

maxine carr

It doesn't sound to me, from this article, that she is much of a risk?

Report
JanH · 10/11/2006 23:22

She made a mistake - a very big mistake, granted, but she didn't kill anybody. She probably needs protection from the public more than they need protection from her.

Please give the girl a break - it sounds as if it is just rumours but if it turns out to be true, give her a chance, try to stay out of the mob

She's been tried, convicted, imprisoned and released. That's what I think.

I think this is gossip. The criminal justice system doesn't offer people plastic surgery.

Some poor woman who is probably nothing to do with this is at risk of having her door stoved in or something. Probably by idiots who can't understand long words, like those who attacked a paediatrican...

And even if the woman concerned was Maxine Carr, what business is it of anyone elses? She never killed anyone. And she's served her time for the offence she did commit.

She is not a risk to children! Why on earth do you think this. She never harmed a child in her life. She was hundreds of miles away when Huntley committed his horrible crimes. She was clearly a vulnerable young woman who was also a victim of Huntley. the only thing that would bother me if she moved next door would be the attention of the hideous vigilante scum who think they have the moral high ground.
I also think you should stop listening to ignorant, ill-informed rumours.

Apparently she lives near me too, I suspect that its a roumour though. TBH i couldn't care less. I think that where ever she is she isn't that much of a threat. She no longer has that evil bastard controling her any longer.
Where are you 3andnomore?

the problem with 'rumours' is they can cause so much trouble for innocent people.

In the case of guilty people ie sex offenders etc the police will be keeping an eye on them, if vigilanties start causing trouble the offenders disapear so nobody knows where so the police are not able to watch them, so by the actions of taking the law into their own hands they are potentially putting people at risk.

Hope this makes sense its late and Im tired

It wouldn't bother me if Maxine Carr was rehoused near me. The vigilantes with pitchforks and flaming torches might keep me awake though. I don't believe she poses any risk to children.

One of my colleagues came into work about a year ago practically salivating with the gossip that MC was living down the road from her (and coincidently working in Asda, plastic surgery etc etc etc).

It's obviously an urban myth that does the rounds but unfortunately every time it does, some poor woman gets her windows stoved in.

Thanks for the replys...have been thinking about and and came then to the same conclusion, i.e. silly to worry, also read a bit up about Maxine Carr and realise that indeed she was to a part a victim herself, and has been punished accordingly, etc. and probably has a right to move on....!
I was just at first a lil shocked at the thought...but was just being stupid...nothing new there then!

Agree with Jan.

A woman in the next town to me was believed to be Maxine Carr. She was abused, threatened and insulted so much that she had to leave. IIRC she was a foreign student FGS and from her photo in the paper bore little resemblance to Maxine Carr.

Rumours can be very dangerous.

Can I just say that I would not actually act on rumours...in rl I mean....writing it down on a forum and asking for opinions helps me clear my thoughts, iykwim!
What I mean, I would not have a go at someone, without truely knowing it is actually the person I think it is...

I am not so sure the police are watching sex offenders after watching Panorama this week.

news.bbc.co.uk/nolavconsole/ukfs_news/hi/bb_wm_fs.stm?news=1&bbram=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1&nbwm=1&nol_storyid=4124514

That being said, I would not have a go at Maxine Carr if she lived in my area. I would not try and befriend her either but she was prosecuted and has been given a new identity for a reason.

I live 5 miles from Soham so had these people on my doorstep before we knew what animals they were. She has been convicted and outed so she is no risk now imo

I saw that as well it was very frightening the total lack of communication from the hostel, I used to live in Bristol as well.

Yes, very alarming and I do live in Bristol

Can't believe that the hournalist rang the police a number of times about that paedophile being with children unsupervised and they did NOTHING

Report
unknownrebelbang · 11/11/2006 22:49

I remember that with the foreign student, she was only a young girl too, must have been terrified.

Report
unknownrebelbang · 11/11/2006 22:52

I'm not going into the rights and wrongs of the argument, but the police cannot afford the cost of surveillance of sex offenders. They do some surveillance, but it is minor.

Well apparently she lives in a village near my town too, agree that she should be left alone, the evil bastard who killed those angels single handed will never be in public again, maxine is no threat, better the devil you know and all that.

Report
WestCountryLass · 11/11/2006 23:19

Well no, I understand that, but if they are given the evidence surely they should act then? This guy was living in a bail hostel run by the probation service and there was serious flaws in their monitoring, one guy had his sons girlfriend in his bedroom! They are meant to be sent back to prison if they break the terms of their order.

Report
helenhismadwife · 12/11/2006 10:02

sometimes the polic watch/follow paedophiles who they think are high risk of reoffending or if they have had a report my brother had the dubious task of doing this last week.

I agree though the police are so stretched they cant possibly do that all the time, and that is what the hostels are supposed to be doing supervising the people in their care. The thing is I saw someone intereviewed on the BBC west news and she said they are do they checks that they are supposed to do ensuing they are keeping the curfews etc but to do more often breaches the human rights act

where in Bristol are you wcl I was in Kingswood until 2 months ago
