Recommendations for preventing scarring to face

DS2, 2, has just had a couple of stitches -under GA- to his lip after a fall Sad and needless to say I want to prevent any scarring to his face (I tend to scar quite easily). Can you recommend anything strips/ ointments/ lotions/ creams/ vitamins that are great and known to work for promoting the healing process? Or is it best to leave well alone and let nature take it's course?

We were told by the hospital to take the tape off covering the stitches after 10 days (though it looks like it will not last that long) but what then?

TIA

(wasn't sure if I should put this thread in 'health' instead so have just put it there also)

Isn't that bio oil supposed to be good for scars?

I would recommend Weleda scar cream / wound cream. I used it on my op scars (thyroid scar is almost invisible thanks to this cream).

But I also want to calm you down, I sadly have some experience with scars on/around lips in children and they have all outgrown them. One little friend of my son's fell on our tiled floor when he was 2.5 and bit through his lip, a bloodbath, I felt awful for ages. He's 13 now and the scar was completely gone when he was 10.

My own son still has a scar on his forehead (think Harry Potter) from walking into a swing when he was 1.5. Injuries in that area seem to heal less well.

50+ sun protection to prevent a dark scar.

Contractubex scar gel once skin covers the wound.

Bio oil helped my scarring (also top lip) fade. That and time (especially as it's young skin) should do the trick.

I had quite major facial surgery a few years ago and the maxilofacial surgeon swore by eye drops being applied to the scar. its common practice in maxilofacial care. They were these ones

My dd badly cut her face open earlier this year resulting in being stitched by a plastic surgeon! They recommended bio oil which I use after her bath every night, at the start I was using in morning to, it's def helped slot and scaring is healing so well, I was honestly distraught and so worried about it, also make sure they don't pick

My son (30) had horrendous acne scars. He's been using Bio Oil for about 4 years and all scarring has gone.

DS recently did this and was told by A&E to avoid eating any spicy food, pineapple or citrus until it had healed as they could irritate the skin and slow down the healing process. He was also told to rinse with salt after all food to help avoid infection - his split went up inside the lip as well as outside towards the nose so food could have got into it. It healed beautifully and very quickly.

dd used cica gel sheets and they were really good but I don't know if it would work on a lip. She also had the stitches taken out quite early (4/5 days) so she wasn't left with stitch scars. Apparently after face lifts etc the stitches come out after 2 days.

My surgeon recommended Dermatix from a pharmacy (expensive and you have to order it) Don't use it until completely healed but it takes away the redness and calms the scar down....rub in and should help to flatten and reduce.

I'm do glad they got a plastic surgeon to stich dd, the scar is amazing, no bumps just a tiny thin neat line, it's just above her eye and healing do well
