When mine had diarrhoea their nappies were very runny & looked kind of how I imagine curds & whey to look like, e.g liquid with little solid lumps in.

You will know if it happens - just not like normal!

When my DS had diarrhoea it was like green tinged water with the odd lumpy bit mixed in. It wasn't the same consistency as his normal poo at all. The residual diarrhoea that was left on his bottom after initially removing the nappy made his bum cheeks look really shiny!!

Quantity and expulsion rate! When my 8 month old had a tummy bug, she was exploding (literally) every 1/2 hour, and no nappy on the planet could contain the force of the explosion. Up the back, out the sides, dripping from her feet (sorry for the graphic description). That went one every half hour to an hour for 5 gruesome days.

As other posters have said, when they have diarrhea...you know!
