Children's Rhyme Driving Me NUTS - Please Help!!!

Okay, ds came out with this rhyme in the car, which he's obviously learnt at nursery. He wasn't very coherent, and I've forgotten bits of it, but it's driving me nuts trying to work out what the rhyme is, so I thought you knowledgeable lot might know it and know what all the words are!!!

There's lots of gaps... sorry!

helicopter, helicopter, will you come to tea?
[.....] half past three
daddy [....sommat about cakes?...] make a nice cup of tea
[.......] half past three.

Now, to make things harder, he has a habit of substituting words and phrases just to drive me insane. For example: "baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full. One for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy who has holes in his socks".

It's going to bug me until I know the proper rhyme. Please... someone out there must be able to help!!!

lol - I love the line about the socks! Classic. I have absolutely no idea what on earth your ds is going on about - it is bugging me too now. Hope someone helps soon, there is a rhyme somewhere about half past three and coming to tea but can?t remember there being any helicopters. hee hee, that?s so funny, still chuckling about the socks...

The helicopter may well be the subbed bit - he'd just got a new Harold Helicopter toy at the time Then again, the rhythm of the rhyme worked when he was saying it - so it's hard to tell if the toy reminded him of the rhyme, or it just lead to inspiration of the modification of the rhyme!!

Yes, the socks line always makes me giggle too Don't know if heard the variation from somewhere else or whether he made it up spontaneously! He's started making up his own "jokes" too, so it's really hard to tell.

Playmate, playmate, will you come to tea?

Come next Saturday at half past three.

Tea, cakes, pancakes, all for you and me.

Won't we have a lovely time at half past three

I am glad its not just my dd who comes home from nursery with a line or an action to which we then have to work out the songs to go with them. She gets very cross if we get it wrong and quite often nursery have made up a new version...

My dd is the same; for ages she would look up to me at bedtime and say, quite clearly, "mouse!". I didn't have a clue what she meant, but eventually she saw someone reciting "Little Mousey Brown" on a kids video and yelled "Mouse Mouse Mouse" until I got the point. It turned out that they have a nursery rhyme tape at nursery which they play at nap time!

Georgina A

Is this the teddybear rhyme?

Teddy Bear Teddy Bear, turn around
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear, touch the ground
" " show your shoe
" " that will do
" " climb the stairs
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear say your prayers
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear turn off the light
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear say good night

They do all the actions and then say night night.
HTH

Sounds highly likely, collision, thank you! Unfortunately, ds is being uncooperative this morning and won't tell me if it's the right one or not!!!

Anyone want to buy an almost three year old?

Could this be what he is trying to sing? It's an extra verse we used to sing with the children at nursery

"Baa baa black sheep have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
One for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy who lives down the lane.

Thank you black sheep, thank you for your wool, Thank you black sheep, thank you for your wool. Some for our jerseys, some for our frocks and some for the little boy with holes in his socks".

He's still insistent that I'm getting the half past three rhyme wrong though!

So far I have:

helicopter, helicopter, won't you come to tea?
Come on Sunday at half past three.
Jellies and cakes and a nice cup of tea
[won't tell me the last line this morning]

bea - the version I know of this goes:

See the little bunnies, sleeping til it's noon
Shall we wake them with a happy tune?
Oh, so still.
Are they ill?
Wake up soon.
Wake up NOW!

Hop little bunnies, hop hop hop!
Hop little bunnies, hop hop hop!

And does anyone recognise "Aitcher Aitcher Farmalade"? Picked it up from the radio sometime before Xmas (probably Kiss FM) and DS is very indignant we don't know it....

Alternatives to the bunny hops, same tune:

See the little crocodiles,
sleeping 'til it's noon
Shall we try to wake them? With a merry tune.
They're so still, are they they ill?
Wake up crocodiles!...
snap little crocodiles, snap snap snap!
snap little crocodiles, snap... snap... snap!

and

See the little elephants....
[rest same words]
Wake up elephants!...
Stomp little elephants, stomp stomp stomp!
Stomp little elephants, stomp... stomp... stomp!

Down by the water where the green grass grows,
there sat a little girl washing her clothes,
she sang she sang she sang so sweet,
she called to her playmates across the street.
Playmates, playmates, won't you come to tea.
Come next saturday at half past 3.
Pancakes and teacakes and everything you'll see.
Come next Saturday at half past 3.
