please help me find a bed guard that will fit our cotbed!

hi

we have this cotbed from kiddicare. i want a double bedguard that will fit both sides for the next year that we will be using it in cotbed mode. i bought one from kiddicare yesterday and spent two hours assembling it, and it didn't fit despite the website and box saying it would Angry

does anyone have a good one that might fit? the problem is that the sides are slightly raised to create a kind of u shape in the base for the mattress to slot into, and the double bedguard just doesn't slot in.

thanks!

Do you really need a bed guard? My DC never had one. The cotbed is fairly low to the ground so little chance of them hurting themselves if they fall. They soon learn where the edge is!

We also found that no bed guard fitted our cot bed. However, on numerous occasions DD1 fell 6inches out of bed without waking up Grin

thanks for your reply. It's not about getting hurt, dd regularly falls out without injury :) it's because she and her older brother are messing about at bedtime and I'm currently acting add a human bedguard whilst 28w pregnant at bedtime. It's too long a story to explain, I have another thread about it, but basically yes I need a bed guard and ideally a double one.

We have a foam wedge that you place under the sheet to keep in place, like this one: bed wedge
Works well for DS.

We have the same foam wedge as didi. Fabulous. Can even take them away with you. You will need a fairly stretchy sheet though or one that's made for deeper mattresses. I had one each side and the John Lewis Jersey fitted cot sheet worked well.

It's only useful to stop them falling out though. No bed guard could be used as any sort of containment I'm afraid. If it was any higher it would be a risk for falling over.

thanks for your replies. that is really quite an ingenious product, i'm very impressed! not quite what i'm after, but it might be the next best thing! actually i think one of this combined with a single bed guard the other side would do the trick based on where dd's bed is. thank you!

Thanks miaow. We only just bought it 3 or so months ago, maybe they've changed the design or something but it definitely has the u shape which is causing the problem. Kiddicare had a single guard on display so I might take a closer look when I go to return the other one, staggering them is a great idea! I'm very tempted by the wedge though as well, I'm thinking a wedge on one side and a guard on the other...I might get a wedge for ds too, currently the gap between his bed and the wall is filled with cushions. And it might be good for our double bed too when we start co sleeping with dc3 in October too. Can you tell I really liked the wedge? [Grin]

thanks all. i clicked on that link, and they seem so cool, the dcs would love them Grin but it says they only fit on a specific ikea bed model Hmm ikea are really missing a trick there, surely it wouldn't take much of a redesign to get it to fit other beds too!

Ikea do a bed guard that fitted onto our mamas and papas cotbed and now the full size stompa single bed. It just grabs onto the raised lip around the mattress and was only about £10. It only goes about 4 inches above the mattress so can be climbed over easily but is high enough to stop him from falling out.

hi there those of you who bought the cot bed bumpers like this one what sheets did you use to make it work with a cot? ive found extra deep sheets for a single bed but not a cot bed. my cot is 70cm x 140cm so the sellers advice to use the next size up doesn't work as far as i can as i can't find a larger cot size.

I used a similar bumper under John Lewis fitted cot sheets. Was fine with 1 under but did end up a bit tent-like with 2. Worked fine though. The JL sheets are quite deep fitting. My mattress is 10cm deep too and they stretch fine. HTH.

Thank you. Those are what I have from mothercare, so maybe I'll just try it with those then, thanks!
