That's it really. He seems to be in a lot of discomfort. :( He went half an hour ago but it was small and hard, not like normal.

How is he fed? Is this a new problem or has it happened before? If ebf are you drinking enough?

He has formula and everything has been fine until today.

Maybe needs more fluid as it's been very hot of late. Could you try some boiled water?

Is it ok to give water? I thought they were only supposed to have milk.

try cooled boiled water inbetween feeds and if that doesn't help you can add a small amount of orange juice into water (1 teaspoon into 4oz of water).
Try bicycle legs too and swimming is great for getting things moving Grin Also, tummy massage.

Good luck,

DS had awful constipation at one point and it wasn't pleasant. It was gaviscon that caused our problems, was fine once we took him off that though it did take a good week to get back on track!

I second tummy massage, clockwise only, then push legs up to chest and back down (my husband dubbed it the poo pump!!)

Cooled boiled water not straight tap. Is your DC breast or formula fed? Formula can bung them up.

Sounds like he might need a bit of extra fluid on board, can you see his fontanelle slightly depressed? If so then try cooled boiled water as suggested. As its a new problem it doesn't sound like its his formula and I wouldnt change it at the moment. Good luck horrible to see them uncomfortable.

Cooled boiled water for a ff baby is fine while its this hot. Agree that tummy massage, no nappy time, a bath and wearing in a sing might all help too but sounds like Lo really does need some extra fluids right now Smile
