New baby brother - Book recommendations

Mills307 · 30/01/2013 12:23

My son is 2y 4m. His baby brother is due to be born in Feb. I've heard there are lots of books out there that can help prepare him for big brother-hood, but I don't know where to start looking! Anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks!

I liked The Baby by India Knight. A lot of books on the subject seem a bit twee tbh. I think the important thing you can do to prepare him is not to keep going on about what fun it will be to have someone to play with, which a lot of people did to my older 2 when I was pregnant. To a sibling, a new baby is dull and very boring, maybe even annoying. Just have a few little chats with him about what to expect. My ds was 4 when his baby brother was born and spent a good few months afterwards exclaiming 'baby can't do that!' after anything impressive he did like scooting or balancing!

my kids liked those, the great thing is that the older child could be a boy or a girl, so both future big brothers or big sisters can identify

I am also looking for this! Thank you for starting the thread.

I am particularly looking for a book that features breastfeeding as all the "big brother" books I've found so far focus on how the big brother will be able to help feed the baby milk from a bottle. I tried telling DS that mummy would feed the baby his milk but he gets a bit confused.

The only issue with "There is a house inside my mummy" for me is that it concentrates a lot on the pregnancy and not very much on the baby. (Also there is a bit where the dad says how the baby's door to get out is a bit tight or a bit of a squeeze which made me feel a bit ill. GrinBlushGrin)

You are all my favourites (same author as guess how much I love you)
There is an us borne book called First Experiences which I bought dd1 as it contains a story called the new baby. It shows what happens in a v matter of fact practical way. Dd was enthralled as it shows the ID bracelets so I got hers out to show her etc. the other stories are about going to the dr/dentist/1st day at school, all of which dd who was nearly 3 at the time was equally fascinated by. It was £ well
Spent!

Thanks so much for the advice. Have ordered 'waiting for baby' and ''my new baby' on the recommendation of crazy crush.
Having read the reviews on amazon they are particularly popular as they feature breast feeding so might be worth a look rubyroo!

My DS also liked Zsa Zsa. Straightforward enough for a 2 year old.
