Daytime naps for 16month DS

Posted in here as not much response in the sleep section (maybe everyone else has got it all sorted by 16 months!) also hoping for some advice from people who don't have to look in the sleep section for support!!

basically pre Xmas I thought we had it cracked. DS was sleeping 1.5hr at 11am and then 7-6.30 at night.

Since Xmas though his naps are never longer than 45 mins and he has started waking earlier and earlier (5am). It's driving me insane!

I'm sure he isn't getting enough sleep as he wakes tired and grumpy in the morning and from his nap, but I can't convince him go to sleep for longer.

He is at CM most days and so only has one sleep there, she is quite vague about how long he sleeps but I can't see it being any longer there.

I've tried pushing the nap later and earlier but didn't seem to help. Same with pushing bedtime earlier than later.

Is it possible he only needs 45mins?

Any tips of how I can encourage him to sleep longer?

Times like this I wish I was a SAHM so I could get a proper routine sorted. Dreading 5am tomorrow

Hi, my DD is nearly 16 months too, she now has one nap in the day, usually at about 1pm and normally for an hour, however she sometimes wakes after half an hour or 45 minutes, perfectly refreshed and happy. She goes to bed at 8pm and wakes at about 7am. Not really got any advice but letting you know that it sounds normal to me! Could you try putting him down later so that he might sleep later in the morning? Most babies that i know seem to be having a 2 hour nap, which doesn't seem fair but I suppose some babies need less sleep.

DD is 14 months and naps between 1.5 to 2 hrs during the day, and 7-6 at night.

No real advice but my DS is 15 months and normally has one sleep of about an hour at lunch time or two smaller naps, (1 in morning & 1 in afternoon) of about 30 mins. He normally goes to bed at 7 and wakes about 6am.

He will wake early (4am!!) if he's teething, having a growth spurt or is unwell.

Only thing i can think of is getting some fresh air, wrap him up and take him for a good walk in the outdoors when you can, it does seem to knacker em out so he may be able to catch up on a bit this way.

I am a sahm and we don't have a particular routine... DS has dropped from 2x 45mins naps to one nap since 15mo or so (he's nearly 17mo) but this ranges from 45mins to 90mins max. He then sleeps 7-7am though lately it's been 8am, I know we're very lucky!

45mins can definitely be enough - but if he's only getting 10hrs at night then I agree he probably isn't getting enough sleep in total. Could just be a blip- how long has he been like this? I agree with trying lots of fresh air - does cm take him out every day? Other than that I've never found a way to get ds to do anything my way! So do what you can to stay sane (earlier bed for you?) and this too shall pass.

Fwiw, my friend's 16mo has always been a pretty early riser, but goes through phases of 5am wake ups and is currently waking around 7am sometimes.

Have you read the no very nap solution?

DD is 17 months and has never slept through in her life, but naps fairly consistently from 2pm for 1.5-2 hours. Goes to bed at 8.30, gets up at 8am (wakes numerous times inbetween!)

Could the sudden earlier starts be because he's too warm or cold? I know DD fusses and wakes at more like 6.30am if the bedroom has got chilly. And then is tired but hard to get back to sleep.

Or hungry? Could you try a snack before bed and see if that helps?
